Apex Legends has revealed some details about new Legend Seer’s recon-based abilities during EA Play Live 2021. Seer’s kit is similar to Bloodhound’s in that it allows players to locate enemy players by using microdrones to find enemies and set up a dome that tracks everyone inside or by using his heartbeat sensor passive ability.

Seer was first shown earlier this week in a Stories from the Outlands lore trailer that revealed he was born during an asteroid impact which appears to have cursed him with a deadly gaze. Apex Legends players will be able to learn more about his abilities in a gameplay trailer releasing on Monday 26, and can try him out in-game when Emergence launches on August 3.

Speaking at EA Play Live 2021, Game Director for Apex Legends at Respawn, Chad Grenier, said that Seer’s kit is stealth-oriented and about "very precise and lingering information." A few of the Legend’s abilities where seen in the animated reveal trailer for Apex Legends Season 10, known as Emergence. Seer’s passive ability is a heartbeat sensor that is only active when the player is aiming down the sights of their weapon and hints at where enemies could be.

For his tactical ability, Seer sends out his moth-like microdrones to reveal and track nearby enemy players. Meanwhile for his ultimate ability, these drones link up to form a giant dome that tracks enemy players inside. Grenier said that the footsteps of enemies that are moving quickly are visible, so avoiding detection inside the dome requires moving slowly. This kit differ quite a lot from the next Legend's leaked abilities, so they could show up in a future Legend’s kit instead.

Emergence will bring even more destruction to World’s Edge, and the new Rampage LMG weapon which appears to use thermite grenades as its source of ammunition. Emergence will also be introducing the first Ranked season for Arenas which will include new maps from existing battle royale locations, a 10-match rank placement system, and win-focused progression.

Seer’s abilities sound like they will complement both aggressive and defensive playstyles. The passive and tactical abilities will help mobile Legends like Octane, Valkyrie, and Pathfinder track and chase down nearby enemies. Alternatively, Seer’s ultimate might work well with more defensive Legends, such as Rampart and Wattson, to ensure the team can track enemies that come to challenge their position. Since Seer is another recon Legend, Apex Legends players should look out for any future balance changes for the older recon Legends, including Bloodhound and Crypto.

Apex Legends is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
