Since Apex Legends was released at the beginning of 2019, fans have loved the battle royale for a number of reasons. Perhaps chief among those reasons is the fast-paced action found in the game. From the base movement mechanics to Legends with movement-specific abilities, success in battle is often predicated on outmaneuvering the opposing team.

Over the last couple of years, players have continued to push the limits of what's possible in Apex Legends. Advanced movement techniques such as tap-strafing are sometimes used by high-level players in order to get an advantage in gunfights. However, these mechanics can be difficult to pull off for some. Fortunately, a new movement trick has been discovered that is surprisingly easy to execute for all players.

Recently, a YouTuber known as wrthcrw revealed a new technique for gaining speed quickly in Apex Legends. This mechanic called "punch-boost" allows players to move down sloped surfaces at extreme speeds. For those interested in adding the mechanic to their repertoire, wrthcrw gave a step-by-step walkthrough explaining how to execute the new movement trick.

The first step to using "punch-boost" successfully is to find a sloped surface on the map. In the video, wrthcrw showed the trick in action on the Storm Point map. However, it can be achieved on all the maps in the battle royale. Once a slope has been found, the player needs to face the incline and crouch. The next step involves punching while moving backward with the S key on a keyboard or pulling down on the thumbstick for a controller. If executed correctly, this will cause the player to move downhill at a much faster speed compared to regularly sliding.

Wrthcrw demonstrated the technique in action on the massive incline found near Highpoint on the Storm Point map. The Youtuber clocked themselves sliding down the slope normally and compared it to the time using the “punch-boost” trick. Amazingly, the player managed to knock roughly 10 seconds off the duration of the trip down the incline.

While "punch-boost" can be used once for a quick burst of speed, wrthcrw revealed that the real secret was performing the trick consecutively. However, they cautioned players not to jump as it would prevent them from chaining more boosts together. Furthermore, they noted that the technique worked with all Legends. However, some benefited more than others. According to wrthcrw, Horizon and Octane were most effective at using this movement trick. In addition, the YouTuber noted that “punch-boost” could be used in connection with other movement techniques, such as tap-strafing.

It’s exciting to see players continue to find new ways to take the gameplay of Apex Legends to new heights, even two years after release. It will be interesting to see how players at all skill levels utilize this new movement trick in the battle royale.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
