It's the nature of live-service games that they receive continual updates from their developers, building on the base game with new characters, maps, modes, and items. Some titles do this poorly, like the recent Halo Infinite, falling short of their own ambitions and providing fans with infrequent updates and partial or inadequate roadmaps. Others, like Respawn Entertainment's popular free-to-play battle royale hero shooter Apex Legends, have struck the balance just right, providing regular and substantial updates that improve the overall game and add exciting new features.

Thanks to a recent (and substantial) leak, it seems like Apex Legends has a ton of new content in the works for gamers to enjoy. This unprecedented leak gained ground on Reddit, detailing a slew of additional content that is reportedly set to join the hero shooter over the next few years. Not only did the leak provide players with exciting rumors to ponder over, but the (admittedly still unconfirmed) information also included screenshots and a handful of work-in-progress gameplay clips to add credence to the reported content. One of the aspects that fans were excited about was the details of a few new weapons that might find their way into Apex Legends, whose inclusion would help gameplay feel fresh and challenging.

The Extent Of The Apex Legends Leak

As leaks go, this was a fairly major one. Not only did it encompass a few new weapons, but it also gave gamers a glimpse of nine new playable Legends that might join the game over the next two years or so. This included the much anticipated defensive Hero called Newcastle, who players believe has links to Bangalore. The leaked Legends also included Uplink, who appears to have some rather formidable abilities that are getting fans excited about their possible inclusion.

However, it wasn't just new characters that the leak featured. There are also reportedly some big changes coming to existing maps, as well as new locations for players to shoot their way around. Apex Legends should be adding Divided Moon, a large-scale space-set battle royale map, as well as five new Arena maps like Hammond Robotics factory which have direct links to Titanfall, Respawn's other shooter. Players should be able to explore these maps in addition to new game modes like Apex Legends' version of Capture the Flag.

All The Rumored Weapons

In addition to the new cosmetics, characters, maps, and modes, Apex Legends is getting a whole lot of new guns. Apex Legends already has a colorful array of weaponry, but players are always keen to try out new firearms and see how they might help switch up the gameplay. The supposed upcoming weapons are as follows.

  • Nemesis
  • Scorpion C80
  • Maelstrom
  • Fanatic
  • Gemini

The selection opens up many gameplay styles, with a range encompassing heavier artillery to rapid-fire low damage weapons. Some of the gameplay footage which showed off these rumored weapons wasn't overly extensive, but players were given enough of a look to pique their interest. The Scorpion C80 looks like it might have arrows instead of more traditional ammunition like the Apex Legends' Bocek Compound Bow, and its combination of rapid-fire and high damage could make this an intriguing new addition. Maelstrom and Gemini look like more fast-firing weapons but of the SMG variety, whereas Nemesis looks to be an energy assault rifle. Fanatic seems to follow the same energy-based lines as Nemesis, but it seems more like a pistol than a rifle.

However these weapons turn out, it's clear Apex Legends is looking to keep providing players with substantial additional content for years to come. It may seem like modes, maps, and characters will have more of an impact on Apex Legends' gameplay than a few guns will, but by providing a shifting landscape of weaponry, Apex Legends is ensuring that gamers have plenty of choice and variety when it comes to how they play. With an already astonishing variety of guns and weapons available, adding more just means that players can keep mixing things up to explore new offensive and defensive tactics.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. Mobile is available in some regions; PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are in development.
