Without a traditional E3 format this year, EA Play has fully gone digital, a change of pace for the company who typically invites all sorts of fans to experience the games first hand. This year, the popular battle royale title Apex Legends from Respawn Entertainment kicked off the show with a ton of announcements. Even though Season 5 and Loba are still fairly new to the game, there's a lot of new content on the horizon.

Chad Grenier, the Apex Legends game director, announced the latest collection event known as Lost Treasures. The event focuses on Crypto, who is searching for some mysterious items within the world. Along with the collection event, the limited time mode called Armed and Dangerous also makes its return to the game, though with a slight twist. Players will only have access to shotguns and sniper rifles, though all players are outfitted with evolution armor, which levels up after killing enemies.

To make things a bit more challenging, all respawn points are also being removed. However, all players will start a match with the new mobile respawn beacon, letting them essentially call in a respawn point when it's needed. The powerup will be consumed once used, so it'll be up to players to decide when and where the best time to use it will be. Lastly, a new town takeover is also coming inside of the event called Crypto's Map Room. It'll give players a better look at what motivates the hacker.

As a collection event, there's going to be tons of new content to unlock. As expected, all of the skins have an explorer-like feel to them with plenty of aesthetics such as Wattson's jungle hat to Crypto's villainous looking mustache. The debut trailer also went a bit further by showcasing exotic and very detailed looking new skins for Pathfinder and the deadly robot Revenant. Mirage is also getting his heirloom weapon, a golden statue of himself, naturally. All of this content and the new mode arrives next week on June 23.

The biggest reveal may have come at the end of the segment however as Respawn revealed that Apex Legends is finally coming to Steam later this Fall, joining the many already added EA games. Not to be outdone, Grenier also confirmed that Apex Legends is coming to the Nintendo Switch around the same time. Finally, cross play is the final step in this process, allowing players from any platform to play together.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One with Steam and Nintendo Switch coming soon.
