There is just a little over a week left in August, which means that the Halloween Season is right around the corner. And even though developer Respawn Entertainment just released a massive amount of content for Season 6 of Apex Legends, it seems that the team is already hard at work on a spooky celebration for Halloween this year.

This will be Apex Legend’s second Halloween, having had a “Fight or Fright” collection event last year that introduced a host of ghoulish goodies like Halloween-themed character and weapon skins, in addition to a Limited Time Event called Shadowfall. Shadowfall introduced a nighttime version of King’s Canyon that was lit only by the moon and candles scattered across the map. The mode featured 35 solo players in a deathmatch, but instead of simply dying, defeated players got to come back as shadowy zombies with the goal of leaving no one else left alive.

Shadowfall might be most remembered by fans who played it last year as the first tease of Revenant, a legend with similar zombifying abilities who wouldn’t be added until Season 4 several months later. Revenant acted as both the announcer and the ringmaster of the shadow-realm where the Halloween event took place.

This year, it looks like Respawn is looking to bring back Shadowfall, but perhaps in a different capacity than before. Reliable dataminer Shrugtal, who recently revealed which legends will be receiving their heirloom weapons next, had some dirt to dish on this year’s event.

Shrugtal claims that Shadowfall will now be dubbed Shadowfall Royale. This would be in line with other Limited Time Modes that Respawn has brought back, as it usually adds something to the name to denote the remixed elements they have added. Just recently for example, Respawn brought back Always Be Closing as Always Be Closing: Evolved, which added in Evo armor to everyone’s starting loadouts. What can change for Shadowfall Royale though is unknown at this point.

Dataminer Shrugtal does note that something that won’t change however will be the return of the lootbin zombies and spiders. For those who don’t remember, some lootbins in the Shadowfall mode were filled with jump-scares of giant spiders and zombified Titanfall-looking pilots that players had to kill to get the rest of the bin’s loot.

It will be interesting to see what spooktacular shenanigans will be in store for Shadowfall Royale. Based on the timing of last year’s Halloween event, fans could expect this supposed new mode to release in early October.

In the meantime, Apex fans are surely enjoying the litany of new content added with the launch of Season 6, including the new gun-toting legend Rampart and return of the devastating Devotion and Turbocharger combination, which has already been slightly nerfed just a few days after its return.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version also in development.
