An unfortunate and sometimes hilarious bug returns in Apex Legends, giving characters the wrong abilities during matches. Respawn Entertainment's popular and free to play title Apex Legends continues to chug right along with new content for players to enjoy. The current season called Eclipse has seen a new hero named Catalyst join the roster, given Seer a new and impressive Heirloom weapon that features tons of references, as well as new Limited time modes like the Hardcare Royale.

However, this season also hasn't been smooth sailing for Apex Legends players either. Numerous bugs and glitches have surfaced over the course of this season forcing Respawn to sometimes take drastic measures, such as removing the Olympus map from the rotation due to error messages appearing. Along with the Loot Ball becoming a dangerous weapon and a movement exploit found on World's Edge, players have seen the return of another infamous bug that is directly interfering with matches.

Over on the Apex Legends subReddit, a user named gwefysmefys posted a short clip of them heading into a Ranked Match. After selecting Loba, they drop into the match with expected abilities like the Black Market Boutique and her translocation abilities called Burglar's Best Friend. Unfortunately, they quickly realize that they've instead dropped in with portal powers of Wraith, allowing them to place rifts and go invulnerable for a short amount of time.

While this bug can be a bit hilarious in regular matches, it's proving to be a big problem for the more strategic Ranked Matches, where every win and loss matters. Others in the comments shared similar stories, including one person that looked like Wraith but turned out had the decoy abilities of Mirage. Others looked on the bright side and mentioned that having an Overwatch style Mystery Heroes mode could make for a fun Limited Time Event.

Oddly enough, this isn't the first time this bug has been seen. It's been a while, but reports of ability swapping issues have been happening since at least last year. After the arrival of Mad Maggie in season 14, players would find that on random occasions, picking one legend didn't always mean you'd spawn in with their expected abilities. Naturally, this randomness made things challenging in Ranked Modes as character picks were purposeful in order to maximize effectiveness in a round, though spawning in with something completely different could spell disaster for the player.

Apex Legends is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
