Stefan Dietz was flying through Portland International Airport early Thursday morning when he saw a man playing Apex Legends in an unusual spot. Typically travelers can be seen waiting for flights, reading books, or stretching out on benches, but instead, Dietz saw a man sitting in front of the monitors announcing Departures and Arrivals, playing Apex Legends.

"I couldn't believe it," Dietz told CNN in an interview, "You've got all these monitors there and he's playing a video game." Dietz snapped a picture of the unnamed man and posted it on Twitter, moments before the man was caught. Apparently this unknown hero had unplugged one of the monitors and set up his PlayStation 4 to battle it out on the Free-To-Play multiplayer. The monitor was intended to show travelers the map of the airport informing them of where the terminals, restaurants, and bathrooms are. Instead, the man commandeered the monitor and had somehow had a strong enough signal to play the popular online game, while chatting with his teammates on a headset.

Apex Legends just released a new game mode called Live.Die.Live which is part of its Grand Soirée event going on now until January 28th. Live.Die.Live allows players to respawn without taking their banner to the nearest beacon. As long as there is one team member still alive, players will be able to respawn near their teammates. Likely the unknown man was trying to catch a few rounds before his flight, but unfortunately, the man was eventually caught.

Kama Simonds, a spokeswoman for the Portland International Airport said that it was 4:30 in the morning and the man appeared to take advantage of the early morning lull. After a while airport officials approached the man and asked him to stop playing Apex Legends and unplug the PlayStation. The officials got a response from the gamer they weren't expecting, "He politely asked personnel if he may finish his game," Simonds said. It was a bold move, but one almost every online gamer can sympathize with when trying to maintain their stats.

Unfortunately for the gamer, officials would not let him finish the game, and he politely complied. Spokeswoman Simonds added, "We would love travelers to plug into our power outlets, but just ask that they don't plug into anything else." Likely the unknown gamer won't be penalized for leaving in the middle of the game, but he definitely won't be winning that round.

Apex Legends is out now for PS4, PC, and Xbox One.
