Apex Legends is gearing up for new Season 8 content coming to the game on February 2. Alongside the brand new Legend Fuse coming to the Apex Games, Respawn is also introducing a brand-new weapon called the 30-30 Repeater.
Fans previously knew the basics of the weapon, being a lever-action rifle with a decent rate of fire. Now, Apex Legends has teamed up with content creator Dazs to debut the first gameplay of the 30-30 Repeater in action, as well as break down some of the more intricate details that players should know about the new gun going into Season 8.
The 30-30 Repeater is the newest gun being introduced in Apex Legends, with no new weapon being introduced throughout Season 7. Fans got their first glimpse of the gun in action during the recent gameplay trailer for Season 8, which showed a brief snippet of Fuse firing off rounds during a firefight. Through that brief snippet, some fans worked out how the gun will function once Season 8 rolls around. Now, fans can see a full breakdown of the weapon thanks to Apex Legends content creator Dazs, who goes into detail on what sets the 30-30 Repeater apart from similar weapons.
The video begins with Dazs giving viewers a look at the 30-30 Repeater in first person, inspecting the weapon from every angle. Dazs then runs through the basics of the new gun, showcasing its ammo class as heavy and detailing the ammo count with each level magazine. Dazs also showcases the new gold magazine coming in Season 8, with viewers getting to see how the magazine actually functions later in the video. Dazs then breaks down the most interesting aspect of the 30-30 Repeater: the charge bar.
The 30-30's charge bar is built into the gun's iron sights, and rapidly fills the longer players aim down the sight. A fully charged headshot does 100 damage, a fully charged body shot does 57 damage, an uncharged headshot does 74 damage, and finally an uncharged body shot does 42 damage. Ultimately, it seems the 30-30 Repeater strikes a balance between rifles like the G7 Scout and the Longbow, as the G7 Scout has a faster rate of fire with less damage while the Longbow packs more of a punch at a slower rate of fire. The G7 Scout and the Longbow place around the middle-to-higher tiers in most Apex Legends Season 7 tier lists, so the 30-30 Repeater should theoretically float around the same area.
The 30-30 Repeater seems much more suited to dealing heavy damage in mid-range fights, given the highest level scope players can attach is the 2x-4x purple scope. Still, the 30-30 Repeater does seem like it can make do in some long-ranged firefights. It's also worth mentioning Dasz is using Fuse during the gameplay footage. While Dasz doesn't use any of Fuse's new abilities, players can see his in-game icons for the first time as well. All in all, the new 30-30 Repeater looks like a lot of fun, especially for players with the patience to use it effectively.
Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with Mobile and Switch versions also in development.
