Anya Taylor-Joy, who's set to star in the Furiosa spin-off centered around the character of the same name, revealed that she received some advice from Nicholas Hoult, her co-star in The Menu. Hoult seemed certain that the actress has what it takes to portray Furiosa.

Furiosa tells the tale of the titular heroine who was played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road. Director George Miller has already said there will be one key difference between Furiosa and Mad Max: Fury Road. While the latter tells a story in a short period relative to Max's (Tom Hardy) life, Furiosa will chronicle 15 years of its hero's life. This will presumably lead to where the character is in Mad Mad: Fury Road.

During an interview withThe Hollywood Reporter, Taylor-Joy recounted some words of encouragement Hoult passed on to her while they filmed The Menu. As fans may recall, Hoult is also an alum of the Mad Max franchise, appearing in Mad Max: Fury Road as Nux the War Boy. Laughing at the question about being given a "crash course on the George Miller experience," Taylor-Joy responded, "He was just so beautifully supportive. We really love each other. We’ve become brilliant friends, and because he knew that I was going to do [Furiosa] almost immediately afterwards, his only words of advice were, 'You’ve got this. You’re going to be fine. Trust me, it’s going to be great, and I, for one, am really excited to see it.' So having that voice of reassurance and support was just really helpful."

Anya Taylor-Joy Furiosa Mad Max Fury Road Prequel

The first Furiosa set photos already promise a return to the classic Mad Max setting and suggest Taylor-Joy's rendition of Furiosa will be in for a long road ahead. In true Mad Max fashion, the photos offer a glimpse at a biker gang in a desert wasteland. Though she will undoubtedly be up to the task, it remains to be seen what events led Furiosa to become the character she is in Mad Max: Fury Road.

Though fans were disappointed that Theron would not be returning to the role via de-aging technology, Taylor-Joy landed the role of Furiosa in the Mad Max prequel by giving a speech that impressed Miller immensely. She may be a young actress, but her filmography shows she's a talented pick for the role. Though she hasn't played a role quite like Furiosa just yet, the fact that Miller was so impressed by her audition bodes well for her performance.

Though Furiosa was delayed to 2024, it looks like the film is on track for its new opening date. The plot is still heavily under wraps, but it is known that Chris Hemsworth will play an antagonistic role in the prequel.

Furiosa is set to hit theaters on May 24, 2024.
