Marvel released an Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumnaia featurette about what the time-travelling Kang's gameplan is for the heroes of the MCU so that fans can whet their appetites ahead of Quantumania's release.

Jonathan Majors, the star of HBO’s Lovecraft Country and the recent Korean War drama, Devotion, is set to take over where Josh Brolin’s Thanos left off as the new big bad of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his turn as Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man 3. Now, Marvel's featurette provides insight into Kang the Conqueror's goals.

The video opens in the Quantum Realm with Katy O'Brian's Jentorra telling Paul Rudd's Ant-Man/Scott Lang that, like “him,” Ant-Man comes from above and that “he” will burn the world looking for him. This opening sets an ominous tone that is different from the featurettes promising a more rollicking adventure in Ant-Man 3. When Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton) asks who Jentorra is referring to, she says two words: “The conqueror.” The piece then cuts to Kevin Feige, wearing his now iconic baseball cap, saying that Kang the Conqueror is the new iconic villain in the MCU as it cuts to a shot of Majors as Kang reclining in a huge golden egg chair.

Director of the Ant-Man trilogy, Peyton Reed, says, “We knew we wanted to go to places that we’d never been, and pitting Ant-Man against a major villain felt perfect,” over a clip of Ant-Man, bound by Kang and being levitated against a wall. Rudd says that while audiences got to encounter a version of Kang the Conqueror in the Disney Plus series, Loki, the Kang in Quantumania is a different type of guy altogether. Feige clarifies that Kang is an infinite series of personas, hinting that Kang's biggest enemy is perhaps himself. He then compliments Majors, saying he’s the actor who can pull off those variations.

The last act deals with what Kang wants to do, at least this iteration of Kang the Conqueror, and he is out to get revenge on those who banished him from his world and burn them out of time altogether. It’s a bold, shocking plan, and after describing how he feels that Kang's story is ultimately about how time affects our relationships, Majors ends on a fun note, saying, “Ant-Man versus Kang. This is it. People are going to lose their minds!”

The clip ends with a montage of action shots with Kang staring at a battered Ant-Man and telling him he’s out of his league. Audiences will discover if that’s true when Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters on February 17, 2023.
