There has been talk about just when the next Captain America movie is going to hit theaters, and now the flick has an official release date. The movie, officially titled Captain America: New World Order will officially see the mantle of the First Avenger pass from Steve Rogers to Sam Wilson for the first time on the big screen.

Details have been coming rather fast and furious about Marvel's plans moving forward with a ton of big announcements about the end of Phase 4 and the beginning of Phase 5 coming at this weekend's San Diego Comic-Con. Saturday evening, Kevin Feige revealed a ton of new details about where the MCU is going to be going the rest of this year as well as 2023 and 2024 and that includes just when Captain America: New World Order is going to hit theaters.

What is officially Captain America 4 will land on the big screen on May 3, 2024, and will be right at the front of what Marvel is calling Phase 5. However, beyond a title and release date, there isn't a great deal known yet about just what the story will hold.

Sam Wilson as Captain America has been a long time coming, considering that Avengers: End Game officially saw the end of Chris Evans' run as the character. While there have been some who have pointed to the fact that the multiverse seemed to open the door for Steve Rogers to make a return, Evans has said it would be "upsetting" if he ever donned the hero's costume again.

At the conclusion of Endgame, it seemed as though things were set up nicely for Sam Wilson to take over the role but in the Disney+ series there were some roadblocks put in his way by the United States government. In Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Wyatt Russell's John Walker was named as the second Captain America, but he very quickly realized that he couldn't live up to the name and at the end of that limited series, it was made clear that it was Wilson's turn to carry the shield.

Now that the official release date is set, it stands to reason that more info about what the audience can expect to see in Captain America 4 will be coming soon. One detail that was confirmed before this weekend is the film's director. Cloverfield Paradox helmer Julius Onah will direct this new superhero flick.

Captain America: New World Order hits theaters on May 3, 2024.
