In the aftermath of accusations against Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star Jonathan Majors, Captain America 4 star Anthony Mackie weighed in on the conversation. This statement is the first time anyone affiliated with Marvel has given an opinion on the case.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania sees the series protagonists and their allies transported to the quantum realm, where they battle against the formidable Kang the Conqueror. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania director admitted to fans that Kang was a bigger threat than Thanos, who handily defeated the Avengers and snapped away half the life in the universe after being built up over three MCU phases.

Majors was cast in the role of Kang, with a Loki director asserting that Majors was the perfect choice to play Kang's many variants. Majors' appearances in Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania were well received, and he seemed set for a lucrative and successful career portraying the villain for several more years until he was accused of and subsequently detained on counts of assault, strangulation, and harassment. Speaking to Inverse about the situation, Captain America 4 star Anthony Mackie appealed for the due process regarding the allegations.

Jonathan Majors Accusations Alleged Abuse Victims

“We’re a country that was built on ‘everyone is innocent until proven guilty.’ That’s one of the staples of this country,” Mackie said during his response. “Nothing has been proven about this dude. Nothing. So everyone is innocent until proven guilty. That’s all I can say. It’s crazy where we are as a society. But as a country, everyone is innocent until proven guilty.” While Mackie's call for level heads certainly has some merit, the appearance of more alleged abuse victims coming forward following Majors’ arrest has made the public sentiment on the matter more difficult to keep objective.

While Mackie is the first Marvel associate to speak out about the situation, his employer’s official stance has been known for a while, with Marvel Studios reportedly not discussing replacing Majors despite other companies and government agencies he’d done ad work for doing so. With the court date set for August 3rd, the company is either following Mackie's plea for due process or weighing their investment in the actor, who was scheduled for at least 2 more films.

Captain America: Brave New World is scheduled to premiere in theaters on July 26, 2024.
