A three-minute teaser of the new Sword Art Online film was made available on Tuesday. Aniplex uploaded the short clip to YouTube, giving those yet to see the film a quick look at what it had in store.

Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a StarlessNight opened in Japan on October 30th. The film was released in standard and IMAX format, proving to be a huge success its opening weekend and earning ¥1,095,251,413 (roughly USD$ 9.51 million) in Japan alone so far.

The film is based on Reki Kawahara's Sword Art Online: Progressive light novels. The series is a retelling of the original Sword Art Online novels, with a greater focus on the floor-to-floor journey from Floor 1 to 74.

A-1 Pictures returns to produce the film series, with Ayako Kohno directing, Kento Toya returning as character designer, Yuki Kajiura composing, and Yasuyuki Kai serving as action director. Kohno previously directed the anime film, High School Fleet as well as episodes of the Ace Attorney anime series. Toya previously worked on character designs for the World of Underworld anime and has also done work on the Seven Deadly Sins franchise.

Kajiura has composed music for a variety of anime, most notably Demon Slayer, Fate/Zero, and every Sword Art Online anime project. Kai has done key animation work on other Sword Art Online anime and has also worked extensively on Naruto and My Hero Academia.

The film will be released in Canada and the United States on December 3rd. Funimation will present the film in standard and IMAX formats, with a release for Australia and New Zealand following on December 9th. The film is set to open in more than 40 countries and territories worldwide.

A second entry titled Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Scherzo of a Dark Dusk will be released sometime in 2022.
