Villains have always been an important part of almost every shonen series. They are responsible for increasing the quality of a series and taking it to the next level. With no proper villains, a show can suffer from plenty of problems, which is why mangaka are extra careful while creating villains.

But sometimes despite their best efforts, they end up creating villains who do not offer anything to the series. These underwhelming villains cause more harm than good as they compromise the quality of a show. With that in mind, we have made a list of the most underwhelming shonen villains.

7 Ultimate Kars – JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

Ultimate Kars from Battle Tendency

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is filled with some of the best villains that the shonen world has seen, but like every series, it does not have a perfect record. Kars is the main villain of Battle Tendency. In a bid to become immortal, Kars tried everything in his power to get the Red Stone of Aja. Unsurprisingly, Kars managed to get his hands on the stone, but Araki made his end rather underwhelming.

Since Joseph could not defeat Kars, the Joestar somehow managed to throw the villain into space, where he was turned into stone. It is fair to say that Araki could have handled Kars' end in a much better way and provided the Pillar Man with a satisfying conclusion.

6 Kaguya Otsutsuki – Naruto

Kaguya kills Naruto's clone

When Madara awakened the Rinnegan in both of his eyes, every fan believed that he would be Team 7's final test, but, Kishimoto had other ideas. The mangaka wrote a plot twist, according to which Madara was betrayed by Black Zetsu, who was loyal to Kaguya Otsutsuki.

Black Zetsu managed to revive the Rabbit Goddess, who was undoubtedly more powerful than Madara, but she lacked character development, which made her a rather bland individual. In the end, she was just a super-strong character that the series could have done without. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that her appearance drastically altered the quality of the ending.

5 Charlotte Smoothie – One Piece

Eiichiro Oda has been known for writing outstanding villains. He has set the bar so high, that other creators struggle to compete with him. It is not a fluke that One Piece has sold millions of copies throughout. Most of the characters that Oda has created are outstanding, but there are a few underwhelming characters.

Charlotte Smoothie is one of the strongest members of the Big Pirates, but she was barely involved in the Whole Cake Island arc. The other members of the crew were utilized to the fullest, but Smoothie remained unused and underwhelming. Even in the Wano Country arc, Smoothie was hardly involved in any serious action.

4 Galand – Seven Deadly Sins

Galand was one of the Ten Commandments, who served under the Demon King. He was among the first Commandments, who got a chance to show off their power early on in the series. Galand's Commandment made him a dangerous opponent, and it was the reason for his arrogance.

Galand believed that all humans were beneath him and no one could match his strength, but he was proven wrong by Escanor. When the two decided to have a wager, Galand was so confident that he allowed Escanor to go first. However, this decision came to bite him as after sensing Escanor's power, he broke the promise, and thus, he was turned into stone by his own Commandment.

3 Kyogai – Demon Slayer

He is the main villain of the Tsuzumi Mansion arc. Kyogai was a member of the Twelve Demon Moons, and he occupied a place in the Lower Rank Six. He was definitely stronger than the ordinary demons, but Muzan believed that he did not have enough strength to do his bidding, so he kicked him out of the Twelve Demon Moons.

Kyogai's fighting style was heavily reliant on the drums on his body. Also, he needed his targets to enter the mansion to actually use his power to the fullest. In the end, he was easily defeated by Tanjiro and co.

2 Sweyn Forkbeard – Vinland Saga

Sweyn was the father of Prince Canute. He was considered a shrewd and ruthless individual, who ruled almost all of England and Wales. As a man of power, it was expected that Sweyn would continue to be the villain for a long period, but Askeladd ensured that his role would be short. Sweyn never got a proper opportunity to show what he was actually capable of doing, which made him an extremely underwhelming character.

1 Fritz – Attack On Titan

Fritz is also known as the "Puppet King." He was put on the throne as a substitute for Rod Reiss. Originally, he appeared to be a fearsome man, who could go on to become the biggest enemy that Eren and co. would face. However, as the story progressed, it became clear that Fritz had absolutely no idea what to do on the throne, and he was just used by the other nobles to keep the secrets of the Eldians hidden forever. His "rule" came to an end when the Military rebelled and finally took over.
