Aharen Is Indecipherable had many anime fans excited about its Spring 2022 premiere. The unusual blossoming friendship between the scary-looking Raidou and the adorable, if unpredictable Aharen has absolutely delivered as a wholesome comedy.
Many anime fans may want to find more shows like it. Fortunately, there are plenty of shows with comedic school settings, eccentric seatmates, and tons of hilarious moments.
9 Tanaka-kun is Always Listless
Both shows feature students that are oddballs and might not be as socially aware alongside a heaping helping of comedy. All Tanaka wants is to do is spend his days sleeping and being as lazy as possible, but life never seems to make that goal easy to achieve. With his friend Oota to help, he tries to find all the quiet and peaceful times he can.
8 Tonari no Seki-kun: The Master of Killing Time
Rumi may want to just focus on school, but her seatmate won't make it easy. Toshinari is constantly creating weird contraptions or staging strange distractions of some kind that Rumi can't seem to help but be drawn in by his antics. They always end up getting in trouble with their teacher in the end and their adventures are beyond hilarious to watch.
7 Komi Can't Communicate
Komi Can't Communicate was an internet sensation when it hit Netflix. Tadano helping Komi, who has a communication disorder, socialize and make friends is as wholesome as it is hilarious due to the eccentric cast of characters that share their school.
The show is also notable for its LBGTQ+ representation with lesbian characters as well as a character that is non-binary. Komi Can't Communicate is another amazing show about seatmates at school that is sure to touch hearts and split sides.
6 Handa-kun
Handa believes that everyone hates him. He's absolutely wrong and is actually the most popular boy in the entire school. This anime follows Handa as he somehow takes all of the adoration he receives as bullying while he tries to hide away from all of his classmates. No matter what he tries, he keeps finding new fans, or enemies in his eyes.
5 Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto
Sakamoto is beyond perfect in every way. Girls swoon over him making all the other boys in school incredibly jealous. Try as they might, none can seem to take down Sakamoto no matter what forms of sabotage they try. The levels to which his classmates try to stop him get to astounding levels and the ways he saves himself even more so. It's a hilarious parody of shonen tropes with over-the-top action sequences for a comedy.
4 Jingai-san no Yome
Few might have expected a one-panel comedy romance manga to get an adaptation but Jingai-san no Yome managed to hit television screens. Each episode is only three minutes long and follows various students in a school who suddenly find themselves married to strange creatures.
Each episode goes a bit into how the young students are adjusting to their new spouses with all of them managing to foster some weirdly wholesome romances.
3 Daily Lives of High School Boys
Daily Lives of High School Boys is one of the best slice of life anime out there with a ton of comedy. Three close friends live fantastic lives full of drama and adventure fueled by their imaginations. They're just three young boys trying their best to live life while still having a great time. The show will evoke so many youthful memories in viewers while giving them some hearty laughs in the process.
2 RIN-NE
This supernatural comedy features seatmates in a curious way just like Aharen Is Indecipherable. Sakura has been able to see ghosts all of her life, despite wishing the ability would go away. When Rinne comes to school and Sakura is the only one who can see him, she instantly assumes he's a ghost. When he keeps coming to school normally regardless, she starts to learn more about the supernatural world around her.
1 My Little Monster
Watching an unlikely romance blossom between apathetic Shizuku and the hotheaded, overemotional Haru is quite a laugh. Shizuku has a difficult time figuring out what her feelings even are for Haru, and she has to do a lot to learn how to interact with him at all. Their relationship mirrors the one between Aharen and Raidou quite well though with a little less silliness.
