Throughout a comedy anime, the viewer is introduced to an array of characters and personality types. These characters then provide the anime with comic relief, but what if they have a different side to them? The bubbly and quirky characters who suddenly switch to serious mode can be jarring but also an enjoyable watching experience for the viewer.

Being able to show their more stern side gives a lot more depth to their character and personality within the show. This is mainly due to the fact that the viewer hardly gets to see said character angry, as they're always the one that's making everyone else laugh.

10 The Quintessential Quintuplets: Nino Nakano

The mother figure of the five sisters, Nino is a stern character quite often. As it's a comedy show, she of course has her funny moments, especially when she starts to realize her feelings for Fuutarou. While Yotsuba is the most bubbly out of the five sisters, Nino has more of a tsundere type of personality for the majority of the show.

However, when she gets serious and starts to actually build a connection with Fuutarou, fans love it. The usually cold-hearted Nino displays her affection in special ways, and the more she falls for Fuutarou, the more she gets herself in comedic situations.

9 Toilet Bound Hanako-Kun: Hanako-Kun

Hanako-Kun is a spirit, bound to the school bathrooms. When Nene summons him after she hears about the rumor of a spirit, he appears before her and the rest is history. They embark on a plethora of adventures, and most of them involve Hanako-Kun saving her.

His personality is hilarious, and his quirky behavior adds a bundle of comedy to the show. However, as he's a spirit, he finds himself getting involved with evil spirits due to his attempts to keep Nene safe. When Nene is in danger, Hanako-Kun drops everything to save her, and it's awesome to watch.

8 Horimiya: Kyouko Hori

Watching Hori traverse her way through her first-ever relationship is a joy to watch for many anime fans. She's head over heels for Izumi Miyamura but gets flustered by his actions a lot of the time.

Hori gets extremely protective and jealous pretty quickly when it comes to Miyamura, and she often struggles to hide her anger. Often seen yelling at Miyamura and even once throwing a book at his head, Hori can switch from cute to serious in a millisecond when Miyamura is involved.

7 Rent A Girlfriend: Chizuru Mizuhara

Fan-favorite Chizuru becomes Kazuya Kinoshita's rental girlfriend and to the dismay of Kazuya, he starts to develop strong feelings for her. Fans of the show watch the pair go on multiple dates and are on the edge of their seats hoping for a sign that Chizuru feels the same way. It's hinted throughout the latter part of the show quite often, but viewers don't get to see her confess during season 1. One scene, in particular, displayed a whole new side to Chizuru that fans were delighted to see.

Chizuru gets involved in an incident where she falls off of a ferry, and luckily Kazuya is there to jump into the ocean to save her. They wash up on the sand and Kazuya remains unconscious causing Chizuru to become extremely worried. The remainder of the scene shows Chizuru battling herself and trying to wake Kazuya up, showing fans that she does truly care for Kazuya.

6 Shikimori's Not Just A Cutie: Micchon Shikimori

The pink-haired Shikimori is head over heels in love with her boyfriend, Yuu Izumi. Izumi isn't the luckiest person and often gets himself into accidents. Shikimori is always there to save him, even in the most unexpected ways.

The scenes where Shikimori is gushing about Izumi are hilarious, and even the characters within the show are surprised when Shikimori shows her more serious side. She displays her competitive side during sports games and shows her edgier side when defending Izumi. Shikimori isn't just a cutie, she's a girl who will do anything for her boyfriend.

5 Demon Slayer: Tanjiro Kamado

The popular anime, Demon Slayer, perfectly blends the comedy genre with the shonen genre. Mixing it up with hilarious scenes and then going straight into battle within a few minutes has garnered the show a huge audience. Tanjiro has some iconic scenes with extremely entertaining facial expressions and animations.

With Demon Slayer being a shonen, there's bound to be a plethora of serious scenes too. 4 Toradora: Taiga Aisaka

Toradora is a popular anime produced by J.C. Staff within the romantic comedy genre. Her behavior is extremely entertaining and her harsh personality is a great contrast to the calmness of Ryuuji Takasu.

Throughout the show, fans start to realize that she's developing serious feelings for Ryuuji, despite her trying to hide them as much as possible. Taiga doesn't want to admit she's falling for him, but eventually towards the end of the series, she accepts them. The scenes where she confesses her feelings and displays her true affection for Ryuuji are magical and are much-loved amongst Toradora fans.

3 Don't Toy With Me Miss Nagatoro: Hayase Nagatoro

Nagatoro loves to tease, and she doesn't hold back when it comes to her Senpai. It's pretty obvious from the get-go that she has feelings for Senpai, but she doesn't want to make it obvious. Throughout the show, she bullies Senpai, and he has absolutely no idea about her true feelings.

Senpai assumed she was just the average bully who enjoys belittling others, but he starts to realize that she actually displays signs of wanting to spend time with him. They often walk home together, and they share quite a few adorable scenes. When Nagatoro spots her friends hanging out with Senpai, she flips and becomes extremely jealous.

2 Nana: Nana Komatsu "Hachi"

Nana is extremely popular within the romantic anime community. It blends serious real-life issues with relationships and comedy. Hachi is a clutz, she's bubbly, she's disorganized, but she's a sweetheart. Her reactions to situations are entertaining and watching her traverse through daily life is a joy.

Ameri is a member of the student council at Babyls demon school. She often displays a tough and cold-hearted personality towards the students of the school, due to her high position in the council. Iruma-Kun is scared of her at the start of the show, but he soon finds out that she loves romantic manga from the human world.

As he's a human, he can read the words in the book, whereas she can't. Iruma-Kun can't let the demons know he's a human, so he finds a way to get around being able to read the manga for her. Throughout their reading sessions, Ameri starts to develop romantic feelings for Iruma, and viewers finally get to see an extremely sweet side to Ameri.
