Creating a new character is always a challenge for the author of a series, but many people believe that giving a character a proper ending is much more difficult. While writing the ending of a character's journey, there are many important things that need to be kept in mind.
A bad ending can potentially ruin the development of a character. So, it is important to ensure that they receive satisfying endings. In an ideal world, all the characters would have a perfectly nice ending to their story, but that is not the case. Despite their desire to have a happy conclusion, many anime characters end up with a rather cruel end, leaving the fans shell-shocked.
6 Nina Tucker (Fullmetal Alchemist)
Nina Tucker was an incredibly adorable character, who was introduced fairly early in Fullmetal Alchemist. She was rather unfortunate to be born as the daughter of Shou Tucker, who was a State Alchemist. When Nina met the Elric brothers, she immediately developed an affection toward them, and the brothers reciprocated. The three of them became quite close in a short period of time.
With pressure mounting on Shou Tucker, he had to make a drastic decision. When the Elrics were away, he fused his daughter with their dog, thus turning her into a chimera. After returning to the house, the brothers found out what horror had transpired. They were disgusted, but they could not kill Shou Tucker nor could they put an end to Nina's misery. The poor girl had to live as a chimera until she was eventually killed by Scar. It may have been a mercy killing on Scar's part, but the poor girl definitely deserved better.

5 Junpei Yoshino (Jujutsu Kaisen)
Junpei Yoshino was a kind kid, who was bullied a lot by other students at his school. This caused him to develop into a recluse. Junpei's only hope was his mother, who always supported him and tried to take care of him. Despite all the hardships, Junpei continued to live his life the best that he could, but that changed when he met Mahito.
Junpei gained new powers, met Itadori, and it finally seemed like things were going to get better. However, Mahito couldn't let Junpei be happy, so he turned him into a monster. Not long after his transformation, Junpei collapsed on the floor and eventually died.
4 Iggy (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)
Iggy is one of the main characters in Stardust Crusaders. He joined Joseph's group when they reached Egypt. According to Joseph, Iggy was very powerful, and he would help them to deal with DIO's underlings. However, Iggy did not take his role in the group seriously until the fight against Pet Shop.
After entering DIO's mansion, Iggy had to team up with Polnareff to fight Vanilla Ice. Vanilla Ice and his stand proved to be a real handful for the heroes. Iggy and Polnareff suffered many injuries, and it seemed that they would meet their end like Avdol. However, Iggy stepped up at the last moment and created an opening for Ponareff to strike down Vanilla Ice. Despite winning the fight, Polnareff was heartbroken as he lost Iggy, who was kicked to death by Vanilla Ice.
3 Band of Hawk Members (Berserk)
The Band of Hawk was formed by Griffith before the eclipse. Every member loved and trusted Griffith with their lives. Together, they managed to accomplish tasks that were deemed impossible by other famous armies. The Band of Hawk reached its pinnacle when the King of Midland knighted them.
Everything seemed to be going well until Guts left the group. His departure threw Griffith into a state of despair, and he made a foolish decision that landed him in prison. Griffith was tortured using inhumane methods, and when he was finally broken out by his comrades, he sacrificed all of them to become a member of the God Hand. Almost all of the Band of Hawk's members were devoured alive by demons.
2 Yukari (Another)
After hearing about the death of her mother, Yukari was distraught. She associated her mother's passing with a curse, and the more she thought about it, the more convinced she became. Eventually, she decided to run out of school, and on the stairs, Yukari meets Misaki, whom she believed was behind the curse.
Fearing that the same fate as her mother might befall her, Yukari grabbed her umbrella and ran down the stairs. Unfortunately, she fell down the stairs, and the umbrella's pointy end impaled her. Yukari's body was found much later in a pool of blood.
1 Mike Zacharias (Attack on Titan)
Mike Zacharias was the squad leader of Squad Mike, a major division in the Survey Corps. He was a highly trained soldier, and he had the reputation of being the second-strongest soldier in the Survey Corps. Zacharias had a very keen sense of smell, which he used to detect Titans from afar.
Zacharias' talent allowed him to defeat five Titans on his own, which is a huge feat. Sadly, Zacharias met a very grim end. When he confronted the Beast Titan, the latter threw his horse, forcing Mike to dodge. Unbeknownst to Mike, there was a Titan hiding nearby, and he landed in its mouth. The Beast Titan stripped Mike of his gear and left him to be consumed by the other Titans.
