While exploring the weird and wonderful world of Animal Well, players may well come across one of three circular recesses. Unless they already have the items needed to interact with these mysterious pedestals, the game won't provide any kind of clues or prompts, leading many to wonder what the circular recesses in Animal Well are used for.

Although it is technically missable, players can unlock Animal Well's SNEAK Trophy / Achievement fairly easily by starting a new game.

As they'll soon come to learn, these circular recesses are key to unlocking three optional items, all of which can be incredibly useful when it comes to finding some of the game's many secrets. Players won't need any of these items to complete the main story, but having them in one's inventory can make certain sections of the game much easier, so they're well worth seeking out.

How to Use Circular Recess in Animal Well

In order to use the circular recesses in Animal Well, players will first need to get their hands on their corresponding medals. The S Medal can be used with the circular recess beneath the animal statue area to open up a path leading to the Remote. The K Medal can be used in the circular recess in the northwest corner of the map to unlock the Bouncy Ball. Lastly, the E Medal can be used in the circular recess in the secret room near the Seahorse boss chamber to get the UV Lantern, although there is technically another way to acquire this item.

How to Get the Remote (Where to Use the S Medal)

At any point after beating the Chameleon boss, players can return to the chamber where they first saw the Chameleon to find that it's no longer there. Now that it's gone, they'll be able to access the left side of this area, where they'll find a chest containing the S Medal. Placing the S Medal in the circular recess beneath the animal statues will open up a new pathway to the player's right, which they can then follow down to an area containing the Remote.

How to Get the Bouncy Ball (Where to Use the K Medal)

At various points throughout their adventure, players will run into a large Kangaroo. Whenever they see it, they should quickly throw out a firecracker, which will cause the Kangaroo to drop its Sack. Picking this up will result in players getting a K Shard, and getting three of these will reward them with the K Medal. With the K Medal in hand, they can head to the room to the left of the bat chamber in the top left corner of the map and place the medal in the circular recess there. This will open up a secret pathway, through which players will find a chest containing the Bouncy Ball.

Players can scare the bat boss away by throwing three firecrackers.

How to Get the UV Lantern (Where to Use the E Medal)

If players light all nine of the candles in Animal Well, they'll unlock a secret passageway on the left side of the beaver warproom. Using the fish head statue here will take them to an area with a crank hidden behind some spikes, which they can use to raise a platform with a red chest on it out of the water on their left. This chest contains the E Medal, which will need to be taken to a hidden chamber not far from where they encountered the Seahorse boss. Players should exit the B.Flame room to the right as usual, but rather than using the fish head statue to return to the central area, they'll want to climb on top of it and head through the wall above it.

This will lead players to a chamber with another circular recess, and placing the E Medal inside of it will unlock a pathway down to an underwater area. If they keep heading down and play the Animal Flute near the organ, a skeletal fish will appear and start blowing bubbles. Players should use their flute and play notes that match the direction of these bubbles, which, if done correctly, will freeze the fish in place. Players can then enter its mouth, which will take them to a secret part of the warp room with a chest containing the UV Lantern.

If players are having trouble dealing with the skeletal fish they can instead play the notes on the jellyfish in the underwater area just above it to be taken straight to the chest containing the UV Lantern. The notes needed to warp there are Right, Up, Left, Down, Left, Down, Left, Down, and they can be used at any point after obtaining the Animal Flute.
