Similar to star signs, the Chinese Zodiac is a grouping of people based on when they were born. However, instead of what time of the year, it is purely by year. For example, this year (2020) is the year of the Rat. Everyone born in 2020 is under the Rat sign!
Each sign is rich with meaning, each having their own tokens of luck and bad luck. Certain signs are best suited for certain careers and some even use signs to assist themselves in matching up with the perfect partner.
Chinese Zodiac signs are all animals. You know what game has a lot of animals? Animal Crossing! So here is what villager you are based on your Chinese Zodiac. Of course, we matched the animal symbols (with some leniency for the Dragon and Snake), but we also matched them based on villager personalities. Enjoy!
12 Rat - Rizzo
Rats are born in the years 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, and 2020. They, like real rats, can be quite resourceful individuals. They are witty and imaginative, making themselves to be good writers, comedians, and researchers.
Rizzo is not just a rat villager, but one whose design is based off of a thief character, Ebisumaru from Konami's Goemon series. Thieves, like those born under the Rat, need to be resourceful, witty, and imaginative in order to pull off their tricks and heists.
11 Ox - Coach
Ox are born in 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, and will be born again in 2021. Their lucky colors are white, yellow, and green and are known to be quite ambitious and patriotic.
Coach is a yellow bull villager. Not only is he an Ox's lucky color, but he resembles the Ox as well. He is also a Jock villager, which makes him sport a very driven and honest personality like those born under the Ox sign.
10 Tiger - Claudia
Tigers have been born in 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, and will be born again in 2022. They are known to be brave and confident. However, their negative traits can be overindulged and easily irritated. This is much like a Snooty Animal Crossing villager . . . like Claudia!
Claudia is a tiger villager with the Snooty personality.
9 Rabbit - Francine
Years of the Rabbit include 2011, 1999, 1987, 1975, 1963, 1951, 1939, 1927, and will continue on in 2023. Their lucky colors are red, pink, purple, and blue. Like actual rabbits, they are known to be quite gentle, elegant, and patient. Their negative traits include being superficial and stubborn.
These aspects are also what you can find in a Snooty villager, like Francine. She is a rabbit as well and is one of the lucky colors!
8 Dragon - Del
Dragons have been born in 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, and will be born again in 2024. They are known to be great leaders due to their ambition, but can also be hot-headed.
There are no dragons in Animal Crossing (unless you count Drago, but his Lazy personality is not suited for the Dragon sign). The closest we have are the alligator villagers. Del is the chosen villager because he is Cranky. Cranky villagers are hot-headed like those born under the Dragon sign, but also are wise.
7 Snake - Gayle
Born in 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013, and will be again 2025, Snake people are known to be private, materialistic, and reluctant individuals. However, they have great intuition.
There are no snake villagers in Animal Crossing, so once again we must turn to alligators (the closest we've got in Animal Crossing). A Normal personality villager like Gayle shares many traits with the Snake sign. Normal villagers tend to be more shy, but the fact that they read so much gives them stellar intuition about others and the world around them.
6 Horse - Buck
Horse years include 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014, and eventually 2026. Their lucky colors are yellow and green and are known to be incredibly energetic and animated. They are typically extroverts who love to be in a crowd.
A Jock villager is perfect for the Horse sign, and what better Jock than one that is an actual horse? Buck is all these things. He is even green, one of the lucky colors!
5 Goat - Chevre
Born in 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015, and eventually 2027, Goat people are mild-mannered and shy. They can be kind-hearted and that leads to them having a strong sense of justice. They like groups, but do not like a lot of attention.
A lot of these traits are like that of a Normal villager. Chevre is both a goat and possesses the Normal personality.
4 Monkey - Deli
Monkey people have been born in the years 2018, 2016, 2004, 1992, 1980, 1968, and 1956. They are known to be quite naughty. In other words, they are inquisitive and that often gets them into trouble. They are clever and creative while also being restless. They can get easily bored.
These traits are somewhat similar to Lazy villagers. They are quite curious and see the world differently from others. So Deli, the lazy monkey villager, is a perfect fit.
3 Rooster - Becky
Born in the years 2017, 2005, 1993, 1981, 1969, 1957, and 1945, people born under the sign of the Rooster are known to be active, confident, and outspoken. They like to be the center of attention as well, so they do their best to appear beautiful.
Such is the life of a Snooty villager, like Becky. Becky is not a rooster, but a chicken is close enough.
2 Dog - Shep
Dog signs are born in the years 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018, and will be next in 2030. They are known for being cautious, loyal, and honest. However, they are not known to be good at communication and can give others the wrong idea about who they are.
These traits are similar to a Smug villager, like Shep. He is a dog and like Smug villagers, he sometimes comes off as conceited despite being kind.
1 Pig - Gala
Pig years include 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019, and its next coming is in 2031. Those born under the Pig sign are known to be calm, diligent, and compassionate. However, they can easily tricked due to their trust in others.
These traits are similar to Normal villagers. Gala is an adorable pig villager with a Normal personality.
