Animal Crossing: New Horizons features different kinds of species of animals, giving players tons of adorable companions on their deserted islands. Although it appears that cat villagers dominate the affection of most players, there are also other species that are underrated and deserve the same level of attention as the cats in the game.

At the moment, octopuses are the rarest species in Animal Crossing given that there are only four villagers who belong in this category and only three of them are in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Now, for those who are looking to recruit the rarest species of villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, here is every Octopus villager, complete with a breakdown of their personalities and appearances, that can be found in the game.

Marina

First on the list is the adorable normal octopus villager Marina, who made her debut appearance in the franchise in Animal Forest e+, which is the Japanese-exclusive game that later became Animal Crossing when it was brought outside of Japan. Marina was then featured in every mainline Animal Crossing game since Wild World for the Nintendo DS. Marina's character design sports a strawberry pink color scheme with a "jet" relocated to resemble a mouth.  Marina is able to mix with almost all ACNH personality types due to her normal personality, though she may come into conflict with cranky and sisterly villagers. Interestingly enough, Marina is the only female Octopus villager, which means that there is no octopus in the game with a peppy, sisterly, or snooty personality type, and she even shares a name with an octoling character from the Splatoon series.

Octavian

Next on the list is Octavian who is the only octopus villager who has appeared in every single Animal Crossing game starting from the first up until Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Octavian also has a cranky personality, which means that he will appear cold and aggressive towards the player at first. When talking to players, Octavian may tend to become angry if the player disagrees with what he has to say, or if they reject helping him out with a favor. His name is also derived from Gaius Octavius, who is the first emperor of ancient Rome who later adopted the name Augustus. Interestingly enough, if the player catches an octopus around Octavian, he will become angry saying "I saw what you just did there!"

Zucker

Last on the list of Animal Crossing: New Horizons' octopus villagers is Zucker, who is a newcomer to the franchise. He made his debut in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and has since appeared in the mobile game Pocket Camp before returning back to the mainline series in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Moreover, Zucker is a lazy villager, which means that players won't see him engaging in any physical activities, but Zucker will be talking about relaxing activities and food, which is funny especially since his design is modeled after the popular Japanese snack, takoyaki. Interestingly enough, his character design, while adorable, appears to be borderline creepy. He represents the Japanese takoyaki, which means that the top half of his body is cooked. To make things worse, he has a bamboo toothpick plunged on top of his head, just like what people normally do to eat a takoyaki.

Inkwell

Although Inkwell is not featured in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it is worth including him in this list given that he completes the list of octopuses in the Animal Crossing franchise. Inkwell made his first and only appearance in the series with Animal Crossing: New Leaf, where he was categorized under the jock personality type. This means that all male personality types are represented by the octopus villagers apart from Smug.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
