After a successful release last month, Animal Crossing: New Horizons proved to be a worldwide hit for Nintendo. Of course, apart from its familiar gameplay and characters, is the first Animal Crossing game to release on the Switch, and brings many new things to the table such as tons of customization options, crafting, and overhauled graphics.

However, one of the most integral elements of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is its diverse cast of characters, most of them are cute and cuddly while the others, not so much. With over 400 characters to choose from, Nintendo was tasked with the challenge of coming up with a unique design for each of the villagers. So without further ado, here is the list of the five best looking villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and the five that are less desirable.

The Best Looking Animal Crossing: New Horizons Villagers

Bob

bob

Bob has been in every game in the Animal Crossing series, making him a familiar face among veteran players of the franchise. What distinguishes Bob from the rest of the villagers is his lavender-colored skin with dark purple spots all around. Due to his appearances on all Animal Crossing games, Bob has been a favorite among fans, especially his fun antics and entertaining dialogue.

Julian

julian

Appearing in most Animal Crossing games ever since New Leaf, Julian is no doubt one of the most interesting villagers in the franchise. Despite being officially classified as a horse, Julian is born with a horn on his head that essentially makes him a unicorn. However, although Julian is nice to look at, he has a smug personality and often acts like he's superior and grander than everyone else.

Merengue

merengue

There are many cute and cuddly villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and it is without a doubt that the lovely rhino villager Merengue is one of them. After making her first appearance in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Merengue soon became one of the most beloved villagers in the franchise. She features a light pink skin tone with a white layer that covers the top of her head. However, what makes her distinguishable from the rest is her horn, which is made from an upturned strawberry. Moreover, players shouldn't expect any trouble from Merengue given that she has a normal personality, making her easy to befriend.

Ankha

ankha

Ankha is one of the original villagers during the first Animal Crossing game and has appeared in every game in the franchise except Animal Forest and Wild World. Her design is heavily influenced by Egyptian themes, and her overall appearance makes her look like an Egyptian Pharaoh. Of course, given her glamorous look, Ankha has a snooty personality and often likes to design her home and outfits with an Egyptian aesthetic such as mini-pyramids and hieroglyphics.

Chevre

chevre

Appearing in every single Animal Crossing game, Chevre remains to be one of the most sought after villager for longtime fans of the franchise. Apart from her cute design, which is made even better in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Chevre also has a normal personality, making her easy to live with and is often in good terms with most villagers. Chevre is a white goat and is designed to have blue eyes and freckles, making her appear young. She also likes to dress classy, which is also reflected in the way she decorates her home.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Ugly Villagers

Limberg

limberg

Out of the many not-so-desirable villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it is without a doubt that Limberg is one of the creepy-looking ones. Upon encountering him in the game, one can't help but just scream stranger danger, given his five o'clock stubble and weird smile. He sports a cranky personality and is most likely to be grouchy and agitated than villagers with a normal attitude. He is also known to become extremely angry when the player disagrees with what he has to say or if they refuse to do him a favor.

Hazel

hazel

Hazel is the squirrel villager that was introduced to the franchise in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Although Hazel looks pretty normal overall, many players are bothered with her prominent uni-brow and buck-teeth. Luckily for players, although Hazel may not appear her best at all times, she has a sisterly personality and will often give players advice whenever they find themselves in trouble. However, her personality type will often find it difficult to befriend villagers with a normal, snooty, and cranky attitude, which means that she may still cause some drama in the game.

Bella

bella

Bella is a peppy mouse villager who is designed to look as if she's up to no good. Given her personality type, Bella is often excitable and friendly towards the player. It is obvious that Bella was designed to be a cartoonish mouse with her huge ears and prominent overbite. Although she is often in a good mood, Bella has a strong tendency to overreact on the simplest of conversations. It is a mystery why Nintendo made her appear like she is always plotting something against the player given that her overall personality is nice and pleasant though sometimes annoying.

Rodney

rodney

Of course, it wouldn't be surprising to find Rodney in the list of the not-so-desirable villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. First introduced in New Leaf, Rodney quickly became one of the most hated villagers in the franchise, despite only appearing in New Leaf and New Horizons. His facial expression that appears like he is always bored with everything that is going on around him is one of the reasons why most fans of the series dislike him. Also, his smug personality doesn't help him out either, especially when he talks about how cool and awesome he is, even when he's not.

Harry

harry

Harry is a cranky hippo villager that has appeared in quite a number of Animal Crossing games. He is definitely designed to appear like a slob due to his thick, unkempt beard. He also lacks some fashion sense given that he always wears a camouflage tank top that doesn't really help with his overall appearance. To make matters worse, Harry also tends to be mean-spirited due to his cranky personality type.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
