Animal Crossing: New Horizons has become somewhat of a phenomenon as of late. Even outside of the gaming industry, massive mainstream celebrities like Elijah Wood are getting sucked into the joyful world of talking animals living on a deserted island.

Fairly recently, Hollywood writer Gary Whitta started a New Horizons oriented talk show called Animal Talking. Now, during the conclusion of the show’s season finale he revealed that season two will debut brand new music from artists Shaggy and Sting.

The amount of success that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has seen within the past few months is absolutely staggering. While Animal Crossing has always sold fairly well for Nintendo, with a major increase in popularity coming from the previous 3DS title New Leaf, the sales figures for New Horizons are incredible. Just a couple of weeks ago, Nintendo announced that New Horizons became the fastest-selling game on the Switch, selling around 11.77 million copies in its first 11 days. Naturally, all manner of people are playing the game right now.

Even mainstream celebrities are enjoying the relaxation and soothing atmosphere of New Horizons, with some even creating content centered around the game. As mentioned above, Gary Whitta started his New Horizons themed talk show mid-April. The show is all captured using in-game footage, where Whitta has guests on to talk about their experiences with the game and even give tours of their islands. Whitta has had guests on like Elijah Wood, T-Pain, and even signed Danny Trejo to be a regular guest. Now Whitta has announced plans to debut brand new music from artists Shaggy and Sting early on during Season Two of the show.

During the show Whitta commented on the announcement expressing his own disbelief that he was able to land this opportunity. For those who may not know, Shaggy is a Jamaican reggae musician most well known for his songs “Wasn’t Me” and “Boombastic.” Sting is famous for being the lead singer, songwriter and bassist for the Police, until moving onto a solo career in 1985. Funnily enough, this isn’t the first live music-performance having to do with New Horizons, as the game’s official musician’s played the game’s main theme live but in separate locations during quarantine.

Still, Whitta booking two prolific musicians to debut brand new music during a video game talk show is still a very impressive and unique feat. Shaggy will be performing on the show on June 1 while Sting will debut his music later on June 8. It seems the popularity of New Horizons is extremely far-reaching. Recently it was unsurprisingly confirmed that the game was also Japan’s best-selling Switch game ever.
