Animal Crossing: New Horizons was released at just the right time to provide the perfect escape. In the months since it came out, it has done exactly that, drawing players in with charm and cuteness. Some have become such Animal Crossing fans that they've even created theme accurate Animal Crossing birthday parties.

A huge part of the game's appeal comes not just from its pleasing aesthetic, but its laid back atmosphere. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a game to be enjoyed at one's own pace. The slow creation of an island tailored to an individual player's liking with no incentive beyond one's own delight is a potent combination. It lends New Horizons a certain timeless feel, as the island may change but the overall motions stay the same.

Not everything about New Horizons is timeless anymore though. In June, several seasonal items were introduced that were available for only one month. Now, on top of the fireworks going on throughout August, three new seasonal items have been introduced in New Horizons. The first is a Rodeo-style springy ride-on (a spring-mounted rocking horse) available for 2,000 Bells. The other two, each available for 2,500 Bells, are a Hikoboshi Outfit and Orihime Outfit. These items are only available until the end of August.

Seasonal outfits and rocking horse

Each of these Seasonal items can be found under the Seasonal tab in Nook's shop at the Terminal in Resident Services. The Rodeo horse is to celebrate the Cowboy Festival, while the two outfits are for Cowherd & Weaver Girl Day. This is a widely celebrated holiday in China, taking place on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, and is celebrated similarly to Valentine's Day. While this isn't the only monthly change in New Horizons (the fish rotate monthly as well), it does represent a shift into items possibly disappearing forever.

Still, it's nice to see a game where players can celebrate with their friends. Many players can't meet each other to celebrate holidays this year, for obvious reasons, and having a virtual venue to do so is a blessing. Anyone who misses these outfits and horse probably shouldn't worry too much anyway. There's a good chance they will be back next year for the same celebrations. Plus, making custom clothing in New Horizons is a relatively easy and fun process, and chances are the outfits can be recreated that way.

So go out and spend some bells on a season of joy in New Horizons. The fireworks only last so long, so mark those calendars. And don't just dream travel onto other New Horizon islands; go to a friend's island in person and share the good times online.
