A month after the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the game re-introduced series veteran Redd, who re-branded himself as Jolly Redd, and now runs a black market shop selling artworks. These artworks, such as paintings and statues, can be donated to the museum, but players should be wary that not all of them are genuine, and fake ones will be rejected by Blathers.

However, players who are obsessed with filling up their museums with more than just fossils, bugs, and fish, will have to transact with Redd one way or another to display artworks. Unfortunately, it appears that spawning Redd on the island is not as easy as other special characters, which led some players to speculate if he has gone missing. Although some fans have seen Redd on their island multiple times, others reported that they have only seen the "art dealer" once or not at all.

Now, New Horizons player Ninji, who is a reliable data miner revealed that there is a pattern to Redd's appearance on the island. According to Ninji, players will encounter other special characters such as Leif, Kicks, and Sahara every week granted that the player has the shop of the Able Sisters on their islands. This means that there are two-weekday slots left to be randomly filled with the other five special characters such as Flick, CJ, Gulliver, Label, or Redd. This is probably why some players haven't seen Redd for a while, given that there are five other special characters that are competing for two-weekday slots.

Of course, players should note that to encounter Redd at all, they must first trigger a conversation with Blathers, who will express his need for the donation of artworks. A day after his conversation, Redd will appear on the island, but players won't be able to visit his Treasure Trawler, which is a boat where he keeps his wares, during the initial encounter. Instead, players would have to wait for Redd to appear again in the game, which we now know would take some time, given that the game will randomly select who will appear on the island.

Meanwhile, Animal Crossing: New Horizons recently achieved a pretty impressive sales record for Nintendo. As of March 31, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has sold a whopping 11.77 million copies in just 11 days, making it one of the fastest-selling Switch games of all time. Of course, given the massive hype leading to its release last March, this achievement is not at all surprising, especially with all the new features Nintendo introduced in the game.
