The new game Animal Crossing: New Horizons has everyone buzzing. Players customize the human-like character of their choice and move to an island. They are free to develop the island in any way that they desire. They can gather food, create items, and even build a community with other human-like animals. Fun stuff! However, the mysterious new character Raymond has everyone buzzing even more than the game itself.

In fact, the obsession players have with Raymond is a little concerning. Raymond is what this new game calls a smug villager. He is very gentlemanly and intriguing. Everyone wants him in their villages! All of this hype around Raymond has fans coming up with all sorts of theories about him.

10 Makes Sense: Main Antagonist

Players are acting desperate for Raymond to visit or even join their villages. However, he might not be the character they want in their communities after all. Fans are speculating that Raymond might be the main antagonist in the game. He is rarely in sight and is always fleeing from everyone.

In addition, he has no interest in becoming a part of anyone's village. Raymond is going against all of the game's morals! Fans believe that this is what a true antagonist looks like in Animal Crossing.

9 Doesn't Make Sense: Government Spy

This is one of the most far-reaching theories of them all. Players feel pretty bored these days with the pandemic going on, but some feel a little too bored. Some fans believe that Raymond is an actual government spy who's watching them through the game while they're at home.

They justify this theory because Raymond's outfit is oddly professional. Furthermore, they believe that the villagers should capture him before it's too late. See? Far-reaching. Regardless, if this is all it takes to be a government spy then a lot of people might be one.

8 Makes Sense: Beat The Game With Raymond

Some fans are speculating that Raymond is hard to attract to their villages for a reason. Essentially, once Raymond finally moves into a village, he finally conceals himself. In other words, he is no longer the main focus in the game.

The main objective in Animal Crossing: New Horizons for players is to get Raymond to join or visit their villages. Therefore, once this main objective is over, players can likely beat the game. This theory actually makes a lot of sense.

7 Doesn't Make Sense: Ambiguous Appearance

Raymond is the main character that players are seeking out. Why though? Some fans are theorizing that Raymond's appearance alone is the reason everyone desires him so much. First of all, he has heterochromia and folks with heterochromia are super popular, aren't they? Second of all, Raymond normally wears an extremely formal business suit. However, he also wears a maid's outfit from time to time.

Many other characters wear the maid's outfit but we guess they don't matter as much. Fans assume that this ambiguity in this appearance is the primary reason players want him in their villages so badly. What about not judging a book by its cover?

6 Makes Sense: Status

One of the simpler theories about Raymond is that him joining a village gives that player the status they crave. That is to say, there's so much hype regarding Raymond that players want him for bragging rights at this point.

A lot of times, players focus on the main objective in games too much. It can ruin the game's fun all together! Fans are assuming that players want to have Raymond because nobody else can have him once he joins a village. It's what people call following the crowd.

5 Doesn't Make Sense: Creates Laziness

Games are for playing of course. However, some fans are under the assumption that players are focusing on getting Raymond instead of playing the game itself. Normally Animal Crossing involves hunting around for villagers for hours. That's part of the fun! Sometimes if players are desperate they use amiibo cards to guy a villager. Since Raymond is a brand new character, he doesn't have an amiibo card yet.

Therefore, players are going onto eBay and buying Raymond with real money! Fans are theorizing that this is making players lazy because they don't want to play the game. They just want Raymond. Not so sure this theory is accurate but it's a good try.

4 Makes Sense: Raymond Is A Scam

This theory gets rather dark. The infamous Tom Nook is making fans extremely skeptical regarding Raymond. There is a theory that Tom is holding Raymond in his captivity. Fans are even claiming that Tom has a barrier around his house so Raymond cannot escape.

Also, this barrier prevents players from entering Tom's home and stealing Raymond. In order for players to get Raymond to their villages, they must pay Tom a ridiculous amount of money. This then puts the players in severe debt. Tom is a pretty sketchy character, so it makes sense that he might be going that far.

3 Doesn't Make Sense: Bothering Raymond Works

Someone who is being a constant bother to someone else never ends well. However, some fans are theorizing that bothering Raymond makes him join players' villages. Kind of twisted right? The main idea is to find Raymond and consistently follow him around so he cannot escape the player.

This way, Raymond gives in to the annoyance and moves in the village to simply stop the tormenting. This theory a stretch considering most people would flee from this annoyance and not give in to it.

2 Makes Sense: Unlikeable

Many players desire Raymond over everything else in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This is not necessarily true for all players though. Fans believe that there are plenty of people out there who do not care about Raymond. They just want to play the game

There are plenty of other desirable characters in the game with arguably more personality. Fans assume the players who don't have interest in Raymond are laughing at how intriguing other players find him. Who wants a conceited cat in their village anyway?

1 Doesn't Make Sense: Bully Victim

There is a lot of speculation going around that Raymond is a bully victim. Fans believe that Raymond wants nothing to do with the island because nobody is treating him well. Raymond is quite hard to find in the game and keeps to himself. Therefore, players are assuming that villagers might be bullying him in some way.

Even though this theory makes a lick of sense, it's not very believable. It's hard to imagine that one of the most popular characters in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is experiencing bullying.
