After multiple waves of free seasonal updates, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is finally at the end of its journey. The final free update for the game is out November 5th and the folks at Nintendo definitely saved the best for last as this update is the biggest one yet. Both new and familiar faces are being introduced in this update, alongside a handful of new flashy items and activities.

All these changes, while exciting, can be a bit overwhelming; especially to newer players that may have just settled in. From players that have been along for the ride since launch to any new fans that just got into the relaxing island life, here are a few things to put on the To-Do list in preparation for the final free Animal Crossing: New Horizons update.

8 Pack Up Your Favorite Furniture

Animal Crossing New Horizons Cyrus Customizing Furniture

When picking out the best piece of furniture for a room or a quaint park outside, it isn't all about the form; the color and detailing is equally as important. What helps make Animal Crossing a great game for just about anyone is its ability to customize. While many pieces of furniture are already customizable via the workbench, a couple of customization kits, and a few hits of a hammer, players still find themselves wanting an even wider variety of options.

The new update will include the return of Reese and Cyrus. Just like in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Cyrus will be able to customize specific pieces of furniture that weren't able to be modified before.

Make sure to pack up a few pieces to run to Cyrus once they arrive at the plaza!

7 Save Up Nook Miles

Animal Crossing New Horizons New Nook Miles Items

After a while, Nook Miles begin to have much less value to the well-seasoned player. Once all rewards have been claimed, Nook Miles are mostly a means to buy Nook Miles Tickets to go off and visit other islands to meet new villagers or farm materials.

While the seasonal items were exciting and new, they were very far and few between. However, in the new update, tons of new redeemable items were showcased; adding a new incentive to all players to begin racking up those Nook Miles once again.

6 Clear Up Switch Space

Animal Crossing New Horizons Pro Camera App Selfie

Each and every villager has their own charm and until now, it's been difficult to capture that on camera. In the November update, players can now switch to first-person in order to see their adorable villagers up close.

Not only will villagers react and pose for a picture, but players can also freeze the camera angle via the tripod camera mode and jump in to join their villagers! Make sure to clear up some Switch memory to store lots of adorable Animal Crossing memories and selfies.

5 Go Villager Hunting

Animal Crossing New Horizons Villagers Gathering at villager

Island hopping to find the perfect animal friend to fill an empty plot of land back home can be a tedious yet rewarding experience. This is the perfect time to pick things back up again to try for another shot at that dream villager.

The new update includes many new interesting interactions with the villagers. Not only are they able to enjoy a cup of coffee with players at The Roost but they can also pay a surprise visit when players are in their homes. These updates offer new island resident dialogue to allow players to spend time with their villagers and get to know them even more.

(For those players who can't seem to scout their favorite villager when hopping island to island, don't fret! The final free update includes 16 new villagers.)

4 Rearrange Your Furniture

Animal Crossing New Horizons Navigating Through Small Spaces

Initially introduced in Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, the ability to navigate through tighter spaces is finally being added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons! Any areas of the home that players needed to renovate due to lack of space are finally getting the makeover they deserve.

Furniture can now be placed/moved "half-spaces" and can even allow players to navigate through them to reach other places of the room. Not only can players easily navigate through these tighter areas, but they can also use adjacent pieces of furniture (such as sitting on a chair) while passing through.

3 Save Up Those Bells

Animal Crossing New Horizons Plaza Funding And New Items

At this point, perhaps most fans who have been with New Horizons since launch are content with their island; their favorite furniture is purchased and all island projects are funded. However, it's time to get fishing, crafting, and ready to catch all the rarest bugs yet again.

Not only are there handfuls of new, never seen before furniture pieces being added to Nook's Cranny, but players will also now have the option of helping Harvey fund the new island plaza. Harvey's island now is home to an entire new plaza that features many familiar merchants.

Funding new island projects can be costly, so it's best to start saving up now to ensure each new vendor will set up shop as soon as they can.

2 Clear Up Some Land

Animal Crossing New Horizons Gyroids And Farm Land

Gyroids are finally back in New Horizons! And just like previous installments, in order to be obtained, they are unearthed from the ground. In order for Gyroids to spawn on an island, there need to be empty plots of land with no furniture, foliage, or patterns laid out on it.

However, Gyroids aren't the only reason to clean up a bit to have some empty plots of land. The introduction of cooking is a great opportunity for players to create fun farm plots to grow crops to use in cuisine.

To get into cooking and collecting Gyroids as early as possible, it's best to do some island clean-up in advance.

1 Pick Out Places For Storage

Animal Crossing New Horizons Storage Shed

In the quest to clean up the island and get everything in order, all without littering or missing out on a profit, players can find themselves struggling with inventory space. Animal Crossing pockets may be deep but apparently not deep enough.

Gone are the days where players are to run all the way home just to put a valuable item back in its place to clear some pocket space. Special storage sheds that connect to home storage/inventory will be added to the game and can be placed anywhere around the island.

Take a second to plan things out and strategically place them in the areas that they're convenient and needed most.
