Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been a massive success story since its launch back in the summer of 2020. Like other games in the franchise, it features an incredible variety of virtual villagers for players to befriend. However, not all villagers are always nice, and one Animal Crossing: New Horizons clip shows a player being trolled by the villager Bruce.

Bruce is a cranky deer villager with blue fur, yellow striped horns, and a confident expression. His fashion sense has him sporting a black After-School Jacket and red undershirt by default, and he has the nature hobby. The striped pattern on his head and the smooth curve of his horns make him resemble a gazelle or goat rather than a deer.

Redditor Magic_the_Unicorn shared a short, 11-second-long gameplay clip of themself interacting with Bruce. At the beginning of the video, the player is shown running down an island road at night and passing Bruce seated in what appears to be a bus shelter. When Magic_the_Unicorn goes up to Bruce, the villager tells them they have no reason to be shy and that they should come sit next to him. However, as soon as the player sits down beside him, Bruce gets up and walks away.

This isn't the first time an Animal Crossing villager has been mean to the player, but it may be one of the funniest. Cranky villagers are especially prone to being mean, given their tendency to be bitter, irritated, and generally easily annoyed. However, this video appears to chronicle an accidental trolling, as Animal Crossing villagers have a history of strange behaviors that aren't always connected to their dialogue. Odds are good that Bruce did not intend to troll the player, but his programming telling him to stand up and leave right after the player sat down certainly had a hilarious result.

As of writing, it appears that many other Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans have strong emotional responses to Bruce's trolling. One user stated that Bruce had just given the player a reason to be shy, while a second reported that one of their villagers had done the same thing to them. A group of other users shared stories of their villagers ignoring them or even visiting their house just to read books and magazines. However, one user noted that sometimes friends visit just to hang out together in silence. With that in mind, it's possible that not all players interpret this behavior pattern as mean.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for Nintendo Switch.
