When Animal Crossing: New Horizons was released back in 2020, it was arguably one of the most anticipated Nintendo titles to be launched at the time. Nintendo even seemed to think so as the company offered a special Nintendo Switch model themed after the life sim. Now, an Animal Crossing: New Horizons fan has decided to customize their own Joy-Cons, using the Nintendo title as inspiration for their overall design.

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons fanbase is not new to customization, especially within the life sim. The title offers a variety of personalization options, allowing players to create amazing themed Animal Crossing: New Horizons islands, rooms, and more. And apparently this fondness for personalization has also moved across to personal items. With this fan learning how to tweak Nintendo Joy-Cons, they ultimately decided to make a custom design themed after the Animal Crossing series.

According to Redditor russspruce, they have started making custom Joy-Cons over the past summer. On their forum thread, they posted a photo of the Animal Crossing: New Horizonscustom Joy-Cons they designed. The photo they shared showed a set that had a white background and well-known game icons like the leaf and house dotted around. The Joy-Cons' buttons were now also in primary colors like red, blue, yellow, and green, while the Joy-Con sticks had the same white color of the controllers' shells.

Though the Redditor did not detail how they were able to make the Joy-Con look that way, they did share that they used around four customization kits to achieve the final output. They had commented that they had to choose from different color variations for the controllers but settled on the white Joy-Con shells and joysticks, then the primary color buttons. One commenter shared that russspruce's chosen color scheme reminded them of the Nintendo DS title Animal Crossing: New Leaf, especially since the special DS model that was released alongside the old title had a similar pattern.

Though Animal Crossing: New Horizons has the official limited-edition Nintendo Switch console that comes with its own special Joy-Cons, it is likely interesting for the fanbase to see that they can also customize their Joy-Cons to look a certain way. There are several third-party brands that have custom kits and parts that allow fans to change the way their console or controllers look. However, given that these are not officially from Nintendo, the community must proceed with caution as tampering with the console and controllers can void warranties or break them altogether.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is currently available for Nintendo Switch.
