Animal Crossing: New Horizons has a massive update on November 5th that hopes to breathe life back into the title that hasn't seen a major update in quite some time. This new update sees the addition of Cooking, Farming, Brewster, and so much more. Part of the excitement around Animal Crossing was the idea that a player could collect various amounts of fish and bugs and then catalog them. It was a calming activity that encouraged players to catch every type of critter. Unfortunately, though, something that isn’t coming in the Animal Crossing New: Horizons large update is the addition of new critters for Animal Crossing fans to collect.

As it stands, there are currently three critter types in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Fish and Bugs have been in the game since its debut back in 2001 for the GameCube. During a Summer update, Animal Crossing: New Horizons also added diving that saw the addition of Sea Creatures as a third critter type players could collect. Since no critter update was announced, an Animal Crossing: New Horizons fan took it upon themselves to come up with an idea that introduces birds as a fourth critter type as well as the different gameplay mechanics that would be used.

A Reddit user by the name of WayBye created an incredibly detailed four paged graphic that shows how Birds can be introduced in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Firstly, these birds cannot be collected. The way players catalog the birds is by taking pictures using their cameras. WayBye also detailed a lot of the different places a player can find these birds such as Seagulls on a beach that can actually steal villager’s food if they’re carrying any, as well as ducks that are floating in a pond where they can be fed by villagers.

The graphics also highlight the bird-watching visitor called Parker that behaves similar to Flick and C.J. There is even a humorous interaction that can occur if he appears on a player’s island since he is a spider. Blathers obviously has a dislike for insects, so he pretends as though the museum is closed when Parker visits the island.

WayBye’s graphics detailed many more fun and clever ideas for the addition of birds in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The entire idea overall is fantastic and the user of the camera to take pictures of birds is quite unique and makes its purpose more relevant. Although the new Animal Crossing update expands upon the camera’s capabilities, it’s not something that everyone uses as much.

Unfortunately, new critters aren’t coming in the new update. It has also been confirmed that the new Animal Crossing: New Horizons update will be the last major update for the game. Additionally, the paid DLC will be the first and only one for Animal Crossing. It’s a shame considering how much more could be added. If birds are ever included, it looks like it will have to be in a future Animal Crossing game.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
