As Animal Crossing: New Horizons begins, players will discover that various rivers and cliffs are preventing them from exploring the entirety of their brand new islands. In order to overcome these obstacles, players will need to first unlock specific tools, and the one required for climbing cliffs is none other than Animal Crossing: New Horizons' ladder. Fortunately, obtaining a ladder is quite straightforward, and this guide will detail how it is done.

In order to unlock the ladder in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players must simply complete a number of the tasks that they will encounter in the early stages of the game. The first of these tasks requires that a player pay off their initial loan from Tom Nook and then upgrade their tent to a full-blown house. This is done with the help of Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Nook Miles, and players should be able to complete this step fairly quickly.

From there, fans will need to help Tommy construct Nook's Cranny, which is done by donating 30 Wood, 30 Hardwood, 30 Softwood, and 30 Iron Nuggets to the adorable tanuki. Once these materials have been submitted, players will then need to wait one day for Nook's Cranny to actually be built, and Tom Nook will start this new day with the announcement of the shop's completion.

This announcement will then be followed by a short scene of Tom receiving indication that new Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers are looking to move to the island. When this scene ends, players should go visit Tom, and they will then be tasked with the construction of a bridge. Building this bridge requires four Clay, four Stone, and four Log Stakes, and once it is placed Tom will have yet another job available.

This new job sends players to designate plots for the incoming residents, and during this process Tom will call and provide fans with the Animal Crossing: New Horizons ladder recipe. Indeed, this recipe lets fans craft a ladder, using four Wood, four Hardwood, and four Softwood, and they can then use their new tool to climb cliffs. This is done by equipping the ladder, facing a cliff, and pressing A, and while this act is simple enough, it has big implications, giving players access to every part of their ACNH islands.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
