With Animal Crossing: New Horizons coming to the Nintendo Switch on March 20, Nintendo recently hosted a special Animal Crossing Nintendo Direct revealing a ton of new information about the game. The Animal Crossing Nintendo Direct presentation included the reveal of popular character Isabelle in New Horizons, and explained what her role will be in the upcoming Switch exclusive.

Instead of working for the local city government like she did in Animal Crossing: New Leaf on the 3DS, Isabelle is now working for Nook, Inc. in New Horizons. While her job title may be different in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Isabelle's functions remain largely unchanged. Players will still visit her for various concerns about how the island is running and with resident desires. She also has the same bubbly personality that she's had since her introduction to the series.

While Animal Crossing: New Horizons has a lot of villagers and the franchise in general doesn't really have a "main" character, Isabelle has been one of the standout stars. Isabelle's popularity even saw her added to the Super Smash Bros. roster, the second Animal Crossing character to join alongside Villager.

Isabelle is just one of many characters that will be returning for Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the Nintendo Switch. As always, Tom Nook will be one of the central figures in the game, with players once again paying off a debt to him in order to build a house on their island.

It seems that a lot of Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be familiar to longtime fans of the franchise. However, the game is also bringing a lot of new features and content to the table. A number of new Animal Crossing: New Horizons features were detailed in its special Nintendo Direct presentation, such as crafting, terraforming the island's layout, and more.

Based on what we've seen of Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the Nintendo Direct presentation and in other trailers, it looks like the game is going to be a surefire hit for fans of the franchise. It's easily the biggest Switch exclusive announced for 2020 so far, so here's hoping that it lives up to the hype come its launch in March.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons launches on March 20, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
