The 2.0 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now, and it's brought a whole host of new additions with it. This includes lots of new recipes for players to make, many of which require flour as a base ingredient. Flour is one of the key ingredients following this release, so it's a good idea to know how to obtain it.

Updated January 27th, 2021 by Stephen LaGioia: Not that this evergreen title needed it, but Nintendo has kept the momentum of the charming Animal Crossing: New Horizons alive with a stream of updates, events, and most notably, the Happy Home Paradise DLC.

This add-on lets players start anew by playing with more items and cosmetics while designing their vacation home along with restaurants, schools, and hospitals on Lottie's island. Given this addition, and the usefulness of the newly-added wheat and flour, it seemed fitting to refresh this guide regarding flour and how to get it, watering it with even more details.

How to Get Flour in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Players can get flour in Animal Crossing: New Horizons by combining five wheat. To get wheat, players will have to buy Wheat Starts from Leif.

  • These cost 280 Bells for one, or 1,400 Bells for five.
  • He is available from 5 AM to 10 PM local time.

  • Leif only shows up outside the Resident Services building once a week, but he can also be found permanently at Harv's Island.
    • For the second method: Approach Orville and request going to Harv's Island, and be sure to bring 100,000 Bells along.
    • The first time the island is visited, players will need to speak with the Gyroid that mentions the funding for botany experts and give the donation for 100,000 Bells. This is what will trigger the appearance of Leif (on the following day), and his services can now be used.
  • Keep in mind, Leif's stock only refreshes every Monday, so if he isn't selling wheat in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players will have to wait for the next refresh.
  • Alternatively, they can set their Switch clock ahead to trick the game into thinking more time has passed, so players can get a Wheat Start from Leif whenever they want.
  • Players can also hope for good luck when using Kapp'n's Boat Tours, as there's a small chance the island players reach will already have wheat growing, but this is a long shot.

Once players have Wheat Starts, they can find a suitable spot on their island and plant them. Make sure to water them to gain a better harvest once they have grown into collectible wheat after three or four days. Once the first batch of wheat has been collected, players only need to wait two days for the next crop of wheat to grow from that same Wheat Start.

Once players have collected five Wheat, they can make either Flour or Whole-Wheat Flour (10 bags) by using a Kitchen.

  • Players can buy the "Be a Chef!" DIY Recipes+ from Nook Stop in the Resident Services building to obtain the flour recipe and the ability to build a Stonework Kitchen. It costs 2,000 Nook Miles in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and will also unlock food and drink.
    • The Stonework Kitchen requires 30 Stone, 15 Clay, and 10 Iron Nuggets.
  • Various other Kitchen types can be purchased at Nook's Cranny.
  • For more recipes, check out Nook's Cranny, which contains "Basic Cooking" Recipes for 4,980 Bells.

Go to the stove in the Kitchen and select the desired flour from the recipe list. Once a meal is cooked in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the food can be stored, displayed, or gifted while exploring and working on the island.

The points below are applicable to Happy Home Paradise players:

  • Cooking Flour will become available when doing vacation home requests for Anicotti, Axel, Bettina, Bluebear, Broccolo, Drake, Freya, Merengue, Peggy, and Tammy.
  • Flour is good for 103 HHA points in the DLC.

Flour can be further used as an ingredient for dozens of other delectable food items. These include Bread, Pumpkin Pie, Pretzels, Pancakes, and Carrot Cake. Perfect for entertaining those guests, or just adding some food-themed flair to the kitchen!
