Whether the player wants to simply cover their island in flowers, cut all of their trees down, or have their home relocated, it's important for many Animal Crossing: New Horizons players to create their ideal island. The various trees that the player can collect and grow are a helpful and easy way to customize one's island. There are quite a few varieties of tree in Animal Crossing, however, and one is unfortunately not so simple to obtain: bamboo.

Trees are an invaluable resource for Animal Crossing players. They're a source of things like wood, branches, insects like wasps to catch, and of course fruit. Players can also enjoy the aesthetic of a particular kind of fruit tree—such as a pear, apple, or orange tree—being planted throughout one's island. Of course, if a player is looking for a more unique aesthetic, bamboo is the way to go. However, if a player likes the look of bamboo and would like to grow some on their island, it will take some time and some Nook Miles.

While bamboo in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is rarer than any run-of-the-mill tree, it's not exactly difficult to obtain. The player won't have to jump through hundreds of hoops in order to get a chance at growing some bamboo. All it takes is Nook Miles, a plane ticket, and some patience if the player is unlucky. Here's how to get bamboo.

How To Get Bamboo

In order get bamboo, the player will first need to have a Nook Miles ticket or the ability to buy one for 2,000 Nook Miles. When redeemed, Nook Miles tickets take players to randomly generated islands that they can find new resources at. Trees and fruit are among the resources that players can find at these islands, and this is including bamboo. In fact, bamboo is only able to be obtained through these islands, so players will need Nook Miles tickets if they would like to bring some home.

When players find an island with bamboo on it, they might spot several places where they can dig with their shovel. If the player digs at one of these spots, they'll find bamboo shoots. This is where the bamboo plant grows from, so one will be necessary in order to grow bamboo on the home island. Similarly to growing a money tree, the player only needs to choose a spot for their bamboo, dig a hole, and plant the bamboo shoot from their inventory. After a few days, the bamboo plant should be grown.

There are also other methods of getting bamboo. Instead of planting a bamboo shoot the player could choose to dig up an entire bamboo plant after eating fruit and move it to their home island. The player could also take bamboo from a friend's island through local or online multiplayer and plant it. Whatever the choice, be careful not to destroy the bamboo once it's been planted—it will be tedious to get again.
