Animal Crossing: New Horizons players have plenty to try out and enjoy in the latest game update. In addition to fireworks shows and quality of life adjustments to the custom designs portal, players can also visit others' islands via dreaming, if they know how.

Dreaming in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a very simple task, but one that can provide a lot of fun, too. Players who use the new Dream Island function can visit islands belonging to friends or strangers regardless of whether they're online or not. Since the islands are simply copies, there's no risk of damaging the visited island, so visitors can do whatever they like and island owners don't need to worry about it.

Version Update

To get started, players should make sure that they're on the latest update as of this writing, 1.4.0. While updates typically install automatically, players can also do it manually if needed.

Players can easily check what update of Animal Crossing: New Horizons they're on by going to their Switch's main menu, highlighting Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and then pressing the plus (+) button. From there, the Software Information tab should note which version of the game is being run. If it isn't 1.4.0 or above, scroll down to Software Update and select Via the Internet to grab the latest version and install it.

Meet Luna

After updating and booting up the game, players will exit their homes as usual upon loading their island. If the mailbox is blinking an alert, check it for a letter from Luna. While some players have reported not getting this letter, many receive an introductory letter from Luna the NPC and a present attached to it. The present is a special bed that players can set up in their homes in case they don't have one already. However, players can dream from any bed.

Once the letter is read, or if there is no letter, players should simply head back indoors to any bed in their New Horizons house. Players should press forward until their character lies down onto the bed. Unlike before where the player would just lie there, a window will pop up asking what the player wants to do. From here, the player can choose to sleep or just rest their eyes for a bit. Choose the option to sleep and the player character will get comfortable and the room will change.

At this point, the player will be transported to Luna's realm, a mysterious purple smoke-filled space. She'll introduce herself and discuss the possibilities of Dream Islands with the player. Simply follow her dialogue and once ready, ask to visit a Dream Island by saying 'I want to dream.' Players will need a valid Nintendo Switch Online subscription and will have to agree to certain rules before getting started. Once that's finished, players can enter a code to visit any Dream Island that's been uploaded to Nintendo. For those who don't have any Dream Island codes, Game ZXC has you covered with a list of Dream Island codes available for visits.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now exclusively on the Switch.
