On the 11th, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players got a chance to try their rods at the Fishing Tourney and this weekend players will get another chance to catch creepy crawlies in the Bug Off competition. Here's everything players need to know about the beetle-filled event come Saturday, July 25th.

Summertime in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is home to lots of activities for players, such as scallop-hunting for Pascal. In addition to all of the swimming fun released in the first summer update earlier this month, players can also look forward to lots of bug catching. Flick's bug-catching competition takes place June through September, falling on the third Saturday of each month for players in the Northern Hemisphere and November through February for folks in the Southern Hemisphere. It gives players the opportunity to win exclusive bug-themed prizes that are not available anywhere else in the game.

Unlike his regular visits, Flick will set himself up in the plaza of the town in front of Town Hall, but keep in mind that the event only runs from 9AM to 6PM, so plan accordingly. Simply speak to Flick to enter the competition, where the goal is to catch as many bugs as possible before time runs out. Players are welcome to enter as many times as they'd like, but after the first entry, it'll cost them 500 bells. Each bug caught is worth one point, and an additional two points are rewarded if players can net more than three.

Several prizes are available for those who rack up enough points to win them. Each prize is redeemable for ten points, but keep in mind the prizes are issued at random. These include stunning items such as an Artisanal Bug Cage, a Bug Aloha Shirt, a Ladybug Umbrella, a Bug Wand, and a couple of toy bugs. In addition to the exclusive prizes, players will also receive a trophy if they reach certain milestones before the event ends: 100 points earns a bronze trophy, 200 points a silver trophy, and 300 points a gold trophy. Conveniently, any unused points will roll over to the next Bug Off event.

A number of high-value beetles are available throughout the month of July, and lucky for players, Flick is still willing to buy their insects whether or not they were caught during the competition. For those with lots of trees planted around their island, keep a lookout for beetles and cicadas, as this would be the quickest way to net the creepy crawlies and win points. Otherwise, plant many flowers prior to the event to attract butterflies and other bud-top bugs.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
