Animal Crossing: New Horizons players that have been working on completing the bug wing of the museum may be getting access to the last bug they need in January. While museum curator Blathers may despise bugs, hunters should be on the lookout for more creepy crawlies in Animal Crossing: New Horizons this month.

January 2021 may have only brought Animal Crossing: New Horizons players a few new fish, but Nintendo has saved plenty of bugs for the start of the new year. In the Southern Hemisphere, players can gather a whopping total of 21 new bugs. However, this news serves as a double-edged sword, with the pattern of no new animal additions continuing for Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans in the North.

No New Bugs In The Northern Hemisphere

Animal Crossing: New Horizons players in the North were treated to the unfortunate news that there would be no new sea creatures in January, with the same string of bad luck extending to those who love fishing. Bug catchers are met with the same lack of new additions in January, rounding out the trifecta of sad news for those who love collecting new animals.

On the positive side, at least Animal Crossing: New Horizons players have more time to gather December’s lineup of bugs. With January offering the same set of creatures, those who have donated all of last month’s bugs can spend the month searching for the most expensive critters to sell. Dung Beetles can be found pushing snowballs, giving players a steady supply of 3,000 Bells per catch. The eye-catching Rajah Brooke’s Birdwing can be found near flowers and sells for 2,500 Bells, while players can still risk catching a Wasp by shaking their trees — netting them 2,500 Bells to pay their loans.

While Animal Crossing: New Horizons players in the North are stuck with a barren island when it comes to bugs, the complete opposite scenario is playing out in the South. With 21 new species to catch, including the wildly expensive Stags, fans of the latest Animal Crossing title should expect to go through a lot of nets this month.
