While August sea creatures might be lacking, players in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres can expect new and valuable additions to the Animal Crossing: New Horizons rosters.

Although there won't be as many new bugs coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons with the month of August as there were with July, three new bugs will be joining the game for Northern Hemisphere players, and one valuable one for Southern Hemisphere players and they will be able to check them off their Critterpedias in just a couple of days.

July saw the addition of several types of beetles and noisy cicadas to New Horizons Northern Hemisphere players, reminiscent of summers in Japan, but only a few bug variations will be added come next month.

Northern Hemisphere:

  • Migratory locust: On the ground | 8 AM - 7 PM
  • Rice grasshopper: On the ground | 8 AM - 7 PM
  • Walker cicada: On trees | 8 AM - 5 PM

Southern Hemisphere:

  • Tiger beetle: On the ground | All-day

Although folks in the Southern Hemisphere will only get the addition of the tiger beetle next month, it's worth a bit of bells and isn't a rare find, so not only will players be able to add it to their Critterpedias quite quickly, but it can help rake in quite a bit of cash along with all of the high-value beetles and cicadas still available through the summer, especially if players wait until Flick visits their islands again.

Speaking of Flick, for Northern Hemisphere players, there will be two more chances this year to participate in the Bug-Off event held by Flick. The next chance to compete and win lots of exclusive, bug-themed prizes such as the Bug Wand and Artisanal Bug Cage will be August 22nd. For those in the Southern Hemisphere who haven't yet had a chance to experience the timed-challenge, they'll have to wait a few more months until November 21st in order to participate (except by time-travel tactics).

Very soon, players will also get to experience the summer fun coming with the Wave 2 Summer Update, downloadable tomorrow, July 30th. Not only will it add the highly-desired save data backup feature that has taken many players' corrupted Animal Crossing data, but it will also add two features reprised from New Leaf: fireworks shows, featuring designable explosives, and the Dream Island Tours with the NPC Luna.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
