Animal Crossing: New Horizons' 2.0 release largely delighted fans with its new additions and content. The update saw the long-awaited return of Brewster and The Roost cafe, which fans had been clamoring for since the game's launch.
Brewster has been a series fixture since Animal Crossing: Wild World, providing players with a fun mini-game and socialization options to play with. After a long wait, his cafe The Roost was unlocked, allowing players to add it to Animal Crossing: New Horizons' museum.
Brewster is primarily known for the coffee he serves up at his cafe, The Roost. Though each entry varies a bit, The Roost gives players an opportunity to enjoy a cup of coffee, and in some instances, players are challenged to find their vilagers' favorites by working behind the counter. It seems a guest or barista at a Starbucks location is particularly fond of the pigeon and his cafe, as they created a special chalk art of the bird.
Drawn on a chalkboard sitting on the front counter of the Starbucks, reportedly located within a Target store in Kirkwood, Missouri, Brewster can be seen offering the reader a cup of coffee for 200 bells. The art faithfully recreates Brewster's appearance, while also mimicking the text boxes and dialogue of the game. The Roost itself is even credited in a mini-art below the main one.
While it's unknown who created the art, it's a charming way to celebrate a peaceful game that many people relied on during the early days of the pandemic. While the tribute is likely lost on some visitors to the store, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been massively popular, so chances are many will recognize it, at least on some level.
The apparent freedom given to the store's employees to create art like this is also charming, though some in the comments voiced concerns that Nintendo might not take kindly to the use of their character. Nintendo has been fiercely protective of its intellectual property rights over the years, serving up takedown orders to numerous parties in an effort to have its games or projects based off of its games taken offline. Fanart often goes unscathed by owners of game series, but when it's tied into earning money at a place like a real-world coffee shop run by a giant corporation, there's always a chance it could be frowned upon.
With the most recent major update reportedly being the last one the game will see in terms of new content, it's unlikely that The Roost will see any real changes going forward. The Roost cafe doesn't have all the features from Animal Crossing: New Leaf that fans hoped to see return, but nonetheless, many are still happy to just see a familiar face.
