The Animal Crossing series has been a strong Nintendo property for decades, but it’s been fascinating to watch how the franchise has grown from a niche curiosity to a mainstream pastime. There are many different dimensions in the titles to help peacefully pass the time, but the addition of Amiibo has brought even more to the games.

The Amiibo cards allow players to have the cards’ respective villagers enter their community. It’s a fun way to gain new villagers, but some of these cards have caused quite a stir over their rarity and price. Accordingly, here are 10 Amiibo cards you’d think were expensive, but aren’t.

10 Stitches ($5.00)

Stitches is one of the more peculiar villagers in Animal Crossing, both in appearance and behavior. There are many bears in the game, but Stitches resembles a stuffed animal more so than a living creature. It’s a fun aesthetic to the character that adds a little mystery to him.

Furthermore, on April Fool’s Day, Stitches likes to ask players personal questions, which again makes him an unusual companion, but one that isn’t expensive.

9 Camofrog ($5.00)

There are all sorts of villagers in Animal Crossing that are basically normal animals, except for the fact that they can talk and wear clothes. The characters that go in a different direction or try to make some kind of pun are much more interesting, and Camofrog is a prime example.

Camofrog is cranky and determined, perhaps because he has such a low price tag, but he’s a worthy ally to have. It’s worth pointing out that the character’s Japanese name, Full Metal, is considerably more intense.

8 Sylvia ($5.00)

Sylvia is an Animal Crossing villager that’s come and gone throughout the various titles and the fact that she’s not a permanent fixture to the games always makes it a pleasant surprise when she shows up. Sylvia was originally more of the snooty sort, but she’s since taken up a much more maternal and friendly attitude.

Sylvia’s look is a lot of fun and she’s kind of a two-for-one deal since the kangaroo includes a little joey in her pouch. It’s hard to overlook that fact, considering the Amiibo card’s price has not been inflated.

7 Jingle ($7.00)

Animal Crossing is full of many unusual and eclectic villagers, but Jingle stands out among the crowd because she offers some seasonal greetings with her arrival. Jingle is a reindeer and a character that likes to play into the whole Santa mythos with his outfit and name.

The visitor is an absolute must for those who embrace the holidays. One would think such a specialty character could go for a hefty price since he only shows up once a year in the game, but Jingle comes cheap and isn’t going to cost anyone their holiday bonus to acquire.

6 Hopper ($7.00)

Many of the penguins in the Animal Crossing series are friendly individuals who are more than happy to offer up assistance and do so with a cheerful attitude. Hopper is the exception to the rule and he’s a rude and belligerent penguin that’s present in all of the Animal Crossing games.

That being said, if villagers can actually befriend Hopper, it’s a bond that truly counts. It’s a major accomplishment to manage to break through his standoffish personality. Fortunately, it doesn’t cost much at all to get Hopper to come to play through his Amiibo card.

5 Miranda ($8.00)

Miranda is quite the bossy villager, but her brash behavior paired with her slightly unassuming look makes her really entertaining company. Miranda entered Animal Crossing a little later in the series, but she’s grown very popular.

The character has a particular affinity for fashion and fitness and knows how to work a Wii Balance Board. Miranda contains a whole lot of personality, but she’s an Amiibo card that doesn’t break the bank to acquire. For those that want some brutally blunt guests on their island, there are few better choices than Miranda.

4 Avery ($8.00)

Everyone’s a critic and that adage rings especially true for Avery, an ornery eagle. Avery is a villager that feels particularly like someone from an older generation who believes that the youth are wasting their futures.

Avery is always willing to offer up some criticism, but he’s got such an elegant appearance to match his bristly attitude. The fact that his name is also a pun on the word “aviary” is also a strangely playful dynamic to this tough customer. Despite his pedigree, Avery is still a villager that’s on the cheaper side to acquire.

3 Jacques ($9.00)

It’s hard not to be taken by Jacques, an Animal Crossing villager who’s just oozing with personality and charm. Jacques is a tiny bird that has a huge chip on his shoulder, but it’s endearing more than it is annoying.

Jacques also has aspirations in entertainment and pines to sing and beatbox, which make him a very fun individual to have around that’s not stressful. If there’s a concert going on, Jacques is going to want to be a part of it. On top of all of this, Jacques’ Amiibo card is also budget-priced and very attainable.

2 Chow ($9.00)

Chow is yet another member of the Animal Crossing community that likes to push the buttons of villagers and throw things into chaos.

This means that there’s usually not a dull moment when Chow is around and the panda’s extreme appearance looks more like a creature from out of a horror film than a Nintendo game. For this reason, it’s entertaining to just be able to have Chow randomly pop up and surprise people. Chow is an oddity, but one that’s still very affordable.

1 K.K. Slider ($10.00)

K.K. Slider is one of the most popular villagers in the entire Animal Crossing franchise. He’s even been able to make his way into the Super Smash Bros. games. Dogs are always going to be good boys, but K.K. has musical skills to boot, which he decides to put to good use and frequently perform for his peers.

A character with as much appeal as K.K. could easily be one of the more expensive Amiibo cards, but it’s a sweet surprise that the fan-favorite character is still available on the cheaper side.
