The impending release of Marvel's newest film, Eternals, means new interviews where the cast begins to open up about their characters, including how they may tie into the preexisting Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Avengers.

In a recent interview, Eternals stars Angelina Jolie and co-star Salma Hayek discussed how previous roles have prepared them to take the mantle of their Marvel heroes. While discussing Eternals and their characters, Jolie teased that while the new group of heroes has gone unseen, the faction may have a history with some of Marvel's most beloved heroes.

Hayek and Jolie were asked if there were any preexisting characters within the MCU that their characters Ajak and Thena may admire or wish to meet. Jolie took the lead to answer, taking the time to tease the history between the Eternals and other Marvel heroes. Keeping the Eternals' ages in mind, Jolie said that they assumed that they knew everyone because they'd been around forever. With this in mind, Jolie continued by suggesting that while the heroes have been unseen until this point, that they could have been responsible for some of the things that happened in other Marvel films.

Given the specialty of Brian Tyree Henry's Phastos, Jolie wondered if there were inventions that the MCU has already introduced that hailed from his genius. "Are there things Phastos created you've been watching and thinking it came from something else? Was it actually Phastos or has somebody else been doing it?" She continued by adding Hayek's Ajak to the mix, suggesting she may have healed someone or something that was chalked up to chance. Ultimately, Jolie teased that the Eternals may have been there the whole time.

With this being the first time any of the Eternals are being seen within the MCU, there are a lot of questions to be answered, especially following Avengers: Endgame. Previously released trailers and teasers have already revealed that the Eternals are being held to only involve themselves in fights that involve Deviants. Therefore, any Earth-made issues are up to others to solve. This likely means Jolie's teasing is only meant to entice people to find out the answers to the questions she poses themselves by taking a trip to the theater, but she poses some potential points for the MCU to explore in the future.

Early reviews of Eternals have not been kind to the film, but many remain hopeful for this new band of heroes and the fresh perspectives they will offer to the MCU. With the film's inclusion of the first LGBTQ+ couple and the first deaf hero, along with the slew of women Eternals will bring to the screen, there's a lot to be excited about. Hailing from Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao, Eternals will be unlike anything Marvel has had before.

Eternals will be in theaters on November 5, 2021.
