Andy Serkis already appeared in Star Wars as two different characters just in the past 10 years. So what's next for the accomplished English actor? Well, if he has anything to say about it, he'd love to set his sights on something a tad more ambitious. Maybe this time without a big fake-out involving a lightsaber to the side.

Serkis famously played Supreme Leader Snoke in part of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, a role that continues to be hotly debated to this day. But for those who saw Andor on Disney Plus, he's arguably more well-known (and praised) for his performance as Kino Loy during the Narkina 5 prison arc. Not only did Serkis help create his character's backstory on Andor, but he also knocked the performance out of the park to the point where fans were heartbroken when this 3-episode character admitted he couldn't swim as his fellow inmates escaped into the vast waters surrounding the prison. It's no small feat to capture the hearts of viewers so quickly.

But now, he'd like to do more in the franchise. Recently speaking to Screen Rant at Star Wars Celebration, Serkis discussed his thoughts on eventually directing something Star Wars-related. "I would love to," he said when asked whether he'd like to direct a Star Wars project. "I really would genuinely. I think that this universe holds a huge fascination for me. I think I am one of the rare actors who's had the opportunity to play two characters in it. But I would love to."

It's certainly an enticing prospect. Serkis has plenty of directing experience, including the divisive yet enjoyable sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage. So it's not like he'd make his directorial debut. The only question is which sort of project he could take on. Disney tends to take a rather intense approach in approving directors for its feature films, so that may not be in the cards just yet. But this is Star Wars. There are tons of possibilities.

One idea would be for him to direct an episode of one of the many Star Wars shows on Disney Plus. It could be a path to endear himself to the fans that way, and it wouldn't be the first time someone has done something similar. Bryce Dallas Howard became a beloved Star Wars director rather quickly when she took on several episodes of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Now, fans are clamoring to see her get her own movie. It wouldn't be that unheard of for Serkis to employ a similar strategy.

Whatever happens, it's great having Serkis in Star Wars. There's no denying that Kino Loy alone is enough to make Serkis a legend in the franchise, and getting to direct on top of that would just be icing on the cake for everybody. Here's hoping Serkis and the viewers get to see what he can do.
