The Andrew Dominik-directed Netflix original film Blonde will make its long-awaited streaming premiere soon. The reimagined Marilyn Monroe historical film will feature Knives Out star Ana de Armas as the notable figure in the first Netflix original film rated NC-17 by the Motion Picture Association of America. The NC-17 rating reflects "sexual content" in the film, which de Armas predicts will go viral across online platforms.

The nearly three-hour Netflix original film is a fictionalized exploration of Marilyn Monroe's life that traverses the weeds of her childhood and later moments in life. De Armas received tremendous praise for her performance as the iconic figure during the film's initial premiere at festivals, but The Gray Man star is well aware that her nudity in the will be the unfortunate thing that will garner the most attention from viewing audiences.

During a cover story interview with Variety, de Armas highlighted the nudity present in the film and the reaction she expects from audiences once the film officially arrives later this month. "It’s upsetting just to think about it. I can’t control it; you can’t really control what they do and how they take things out of context," expressed de Armas. "I don’t think it gave me second thoughts; it just gave me a bad taste to think about the future of those clips."

Ana de Armas Blonde Venice Film Festival Standing Ovation

The NC-17 rating from the MPA indicates that the content present in the upcoming film is permitted only for audiences that are 18-years-old or older. Both de Armas and Dominik have been vocal about their displeasure surrounding the MPA rating for Blonde, which is said to include a graphic rape scene and a vaginal point-of-view shot. "I did things in this movie I would have never done for anyone else, ever," stated de Armas. "I did it for her, and I did it for Andrew."

The film's availability on Netflix is a double-edged sword when it comes to the matter. The access will ultimately provide an avenue for more audiences to fully experience the de Armas-led film, but it will also allow the audiences to take screenshots of the film's intimate moments, which can then be easily spread online.

The No Time to Die star received an almost 14-minute standing ovation at the film's premiere at the Venice Film Festival for her moving performance. It will be interesting to see how audiences receive the film and if an infatuation with other elements may distract from the film's purpose.

Blonde will officially hit Netflix on September 28, 2022.
