  • Among Us may have stumbled lately, but its star-studded TV show cast proves the franchise is hugely successful.
  • The impressive lineup of talent for the Among Us animated series showcases the game's lasting popularity.
  • While the show's cast is prestigious, the project will hopefully not take itself too seriously, as Among Us' status as an internet meme is impossible to shake.

One of the big surprises to come from Summer Game Fest was the announcement of the full cast for the animated TV show adaptation of hit game Among Us. While some believe Among Us has fallen from grace in recent years, the show's star-studded cast proves that the franchise still has bite.

Among Us has, undeniably, fallen to the wayside compared to other hot Twitch games. The title caught the world by storm with its social deduction gameplay, something that meshed perfectly with live-streaming and influencer collaboration—not to mention the advantages it gained from self-isolation in 2020. However, the game has been slow to innovate, leading to it getting lost in the shuffle when compared to other live services. New maps and content updates have come incredibly slowly, all while players have been continually ravaged by bugs and hackers. Still, even with the game's struggles, fans of the IP as a whole have a star-studded show to look forward to - one that could not exist if Among Us hadn't taken the world by storm years ago.

Among Us' TV Show Cast Is A Testament To Its Popularity

Not only is Among Us still getting new updates, Summer Game Fest saw a trailer for an animated TV show based on the game. The trailer is a silent showcase of crewmate life, haunted by the paranoia surrounding a malevolent impostor. However, the end of the trailer revealed an impressive list of voice talent. The major names included here are a great showcase of just how well Among Us has done for itself.

The Cast Of Among Us Is Incredibly Prestigious

The names listed at the end of Among Us' TV show trailer are, frankly, above what fans could've expected even given the game's peak popularity. Just about everyone attached is incredibly prolific, so much so that it's hard to pick out a particular example. In the world of videogames, Ashley Johnson is perhaps the biggest name; not only is she among the cast of hit TTRPG show Critical Role, she is very well known for playing Ellie in The Last of Us. Debra Wilson also has a well-trod history in gaming, playing Amanda Waller in multiple DC titles as well as Cere Junda in Jedi: Fallen Order.

Other huge names attached to the project include Wayne Knight, Elijah Wood, and Patton Oswalt. Knight has played big roles in massive films like Jurassic Park and Space Jam, while Patton Oswalt continues to be a prolific voice and screen actor—with perhaps his most beloved project being the Pixar film Ratatouille. Elijah Wood, of course, is most well known for playing Frodo in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings adaptation. These names, in addition to everyone else involved, do a lot to prove Among Us' success. The full cast list for the adaptation is as follows:

  • Patton Oswalt
  • Phil Lamarr
  • Ashley Johnson
  • Debra Wilson
  • Dan Stevens
  • Kimiko Glenn
  • Elijah Wood
  • Liv Hewson
  • Randall Park
  • Wayne Knight
  • Yvette Nicole Brown

Among Us May Still Be On The Backfoot

This cast is a good sign for Among Us' fortunes, highlighting how InnerSloth still has a great deal of cash to play with. On the other hand, while these names do bring more legitimacy to the game, they may not rectify the title's woes. Among Us may have recognition, but that recognition still materializes as mass teasing. Be it using the game's stings as punchlines or the overuse of the word 'sus', the internet at large doesn't take Among Us seriously.

Moreover, the game's issues still persist. While Among Us is now receiving new maps, they may be entering the conversation too late. New roles and mechanics are also nice, but the legacy of hackers and glitches overshadow these changes. All this is without mentioning the use of Among Us' iconography in clickbait content-farm material, a factor completely outside InnerSloth's ability to control. Still, as long as the show's stellar cast has good material to work with, and the adaptation doesn't try to take itself too seriously, it has a lot of potential to succeed where the game has stumbled.
