Among Us developer InnerSloth revealed some of the upcoming features fo that it's been working on at Summer Game Fest earlier today. An entirely new Hide & Seek mode, new Sheriff and Scientist Crewmate roles, and new player colors are just some of the major features coming to the game.

The hidden role game, which originally released in 2018, saw a surge in popularity in 2020 due to COVID-19 lockdowns. Since then, InnerSloth has continued to add new features and cosmetic items, such as pets and new maps, to Among Us, which has kept players coming back to deceive their friends.

The new Hide & Seek mode appears to take inspiration from the fan-made mode, which sees a known Impostor actively hunting down hiding crewmates rather than having a secret Impostor kill off the crew. While a fifth map was also announced, it was only a tiny teaser image that just showed a button, leaving little else to go on.

New crewmate roles are also being added in the form of the Sheriff and the Scientist. It is not yet known how these roles will function in-game, but they will certainly add a fresh spin on the normal Among Us format by giving special abilities to some crewmates. Some mods for Among Us have added extra roles, notably a Sheriff mod that gives the player a gun that they can use to shoot the Impostor.

More upcoming additions include extra visor cosmetics; new player character colors such as rose, maroon, and banana; and achievements. Account linking to share progress between platforms and PlayStation and Xbox console releases for Among Us are still on the horizon too. In the trailer, Xbox controller button prompts are clearly visible, giving players a preview of how Among Us will handle on consoles.

The developers also revealed on Twitter that a lot of these features, including Crewmate roles, had been planned before the release of Among Us. They were ultimately cut, but the thriving community that has built up around the game over the last year has allowed InnerSloth to revisit some cut features in 2021.

Currently, there are also no release dates for any of these new features, so the roadmap gives only a very rough guide to what new features are on the way. However, Among Us players can expect support for 15-player lobbies and a graphics update soon according to the roadmap.

Among Us is out now for mobile, PC, and Switch, with PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
