Deception games can be fun, but they are also very difficult. This remains true in the latest murderous hit Among Us. As astronauts, players are given tasks to complete around the ship. Meanwhile, there is at least one impostor in the group that the crewmates must get before they kill everyone in sight like a horror game.

Trying to find the impostor is difficult as crewmates need to track their movements and keep a watchful eye on as many fellow crewmates as possible. But this doesn't mean being an impostor is a breeze. Acting normal among a group that needs to be killed can be hard and plenty of mistakes can be made.

10 Faking A Nonexistent Task

For those who are newer to the game, it may be hard to know which tasks are real and which aren't. This is because each map in Among Us has plenty of gizmos and gadgets that could be messed with but some are purely for decoration or non-task purposes. This can even be made worse if a player spots the impostor doing this and asks them what task they were doing. It's an easy way to get booted off the ship and an easy way to avoid this is to use the game's Freeplay mode.

9 Stopping To Sabotage

While killing and faking tasks are the primary goal of the impostor, they also have access to the technology within the ship. With this, they have the ability to shut doors, turn out the lights, and call potential meltdowns that could kill everyone aboard. These can be activated in a menu the impostors can bring up at any time, as long as the sabotage cooldown timer is at zero. While this is a crucial part of the game, it's important to be either faking tasks or actively walking while activating the sabotage. This can avoid people questioning why the impostor was just standing in place.

8 Bad Alibis

One of the main goals of the impostor is to throw off any scent that they are evil. Obviously keeping track of where they went is important, as well as avoiding any mention of being near any murders.

Unfortunately, it doesn't help for impostors to say they were in MedBay when the murder happened right outside MedBay. It also isn't good for them to say that they were in a room they weren't in as that could easily be squandered if someone says they were in the room the entire time and didn't see them.

7 Doubling Back

Motion is fluent in Among Us. For crewmates, they are given direction as to where to go in order to complete a task. For impostors, they are not given much direction outside of the fake task list provided to them. Because of this, impostors can be accused if they just run in weird patterns. An example of this is the dreaded double back. If a player begins to walk away only to quickly turn around, it could be perceived that they were attempting to go back and kill someone. Always keep this in mind: avoid standing in weird places and don't move in strange ways.

6 Openly Killing

This can go a few ways, with most ways ending in the impostor getting caught. Killing in secret is the biggest element in every impostor round because as long as they don't get caught, there is always a chance they can get through the game and win. Now, there are some anomalies, such as killing in front of one person and accusing that person without anyone else there to vouch for them. But most times, it's a very hard play. Plus, doing in front of more than one crewmate is a sure-fire way to end the game early.

5 Framing The Partner

Most mistakes in Among Us are unintentional, but there are some that are downright impossible to prevent. In multi-impostor games of Among Us, a great example of this is one impostor accidentally framing their fellow partner for a kill they didn't do. Specifically, an impostor may kill someone in front of their partner, vent out, and have someone walk in on the partner standing next to the dead body. The only thing impostors can do in these circumstances is to watch their surroundings before making a play like this.

4 Defending The Suspect

In meetings, there are plenty of strategies that work for impostors. They can be quiet and let everyone go after each other. They can also actively partake in conversations and just lie about what they've been doing. But there's always a chance a finger might be pointed at an impostor.

If a fellow impostor gets accused, it could be safe to defend them at first. However, it's also important to read the room. Defending an impostor that is guaranteed to die may be a death sentence. It may stink, but biting the bullet could give the impostors more chances at winning.

3 Not Seeing The Cameras On

This particular mistake can only be made on The Skeld and Polus as Mira HQ does not have a camera system. While doing tasks, a crewmate may have a little time to check the cameras to see where everyone is. Luckily, cameras aren't everywhere for imposters so it's possible to avoid killing in front of a camera. That said, many of those who have played impostor has made the big mistake of killing in front of a camera and not seeing that it had a red light, indicating it was on. The person watching will have all the evidence to convince the crewmates.

2 Forgetting To Sabotage

Sabotaging in weird places can be suspicious, but it can't be understated how important sabotages are for impostors. They can give themselves opportunities to kill while people are busy stopping a meltdown or not able to see anything due to the lights being off. But sabotages come in handy the most when the numbers have dwindled. When the amount needed to kill meets the number of impostors, the bad guys need to activate a meltdown before someone has a chance to call a meeting. Not doing this is the difference between victory and defeat.

1 Venting To A Crowd

One other feature that is critical to an impostor's survival is the vents. These networks below the ship give imposters the capability to travel to different rooms quickly without being seen. That is if they can avoid being spotted leaving or entering by a crewmate. Killing someone and then venting can help the impostor clean their hands of a murder. But they need to watch out if someone walks in while they are getting out of the vent in another room. Certain devices on these maps may also catch someone venting, so it's a system that needs to be used smartly.
