A new fresh update has come to Among Us, adding brand new special roles for both crewmates and imposters. These new roles come with their own unique rules and mechanics, which bring a new layer to the popular multiplayer mystery game. One of these roles is the Guardian Angel.

Like the other new roles, players can set the odds of a Guardian Angel appearing before starting a game of Among Us in the lobby's options. This role, however, will only be assigned after the first crewmate is killed, with that dead crewmate being given the Guardian Angel role. The main ability of this player is to save other crewmates from being killed by imposters.

Unlike the other new Among Us roles, the identity of the Guardian Angel player is made public knowledge via the voting screen. The dead player serving as a Guardian Angel will have a small wing icon next to their name, signifying their new role.

Becoming the Guardian Angel in Among Us

Among Us Guardian Angel Player

As previously stated, players can become a Guardian Angel if they are the first crewmate killed. They can be killed via an Imposter or being ejected. By default, no players will become the Guardian Angel unless the option for the role is turned on in the lobby's options. Guardian Angel ghosts have a different appearance from other ghosts, instead appearing with large angel wings that flap behind them as they float around the map.

Through the Among Us lobby options, the odds of a Guardian Angel appearing at all as well as the maximum amount of Guardian Angels can be changed. If multiple Guardian Angels are made available, the crewmates chosen for the role will go in death order starting from the first until the maximum number set is reached.

Protecting Crewmates

Among Us Guardian Angel Protection

Guardian Angels has access to the exclusive ability known as Protect. This is what allows them to save other crewmates from being killed by Imposters. It appears as an ability button similar to the kill option for Imposters.

When using Protect, it will cast a shield around any living players that are close by. As long as this shield is active, the protected player cannot be killed by an Imposter. This shield can last from 5 to 30 seconds, depending on the lobby's settings. The cooldown for this ability can last from 35 to 120 seconds, once again depending on the lobby's settings. Another lobby setting that can be switched around is the ability for imposters to see shields or not.

When a player is protected from being killed, a message will appear on the voting screen before the discussion starts. This can be used for players to think of times where a failed attack may have happened.

Among Us is out now on Mobile, PC, and Switch, with PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S versions releasing December 14, 2021.
