Highlights

  • The Fungle update for Among Us will be released for free on October 24, with a new map, tasks, cosmetics, and a sabotage feature.
  • Plans for Among Us' fifth map were first teased back in February 2023, and now The Fungle will soon introduce new objectives and hazards for players to avoid or utilize.
  • Among Us remains popular on Twitch and its developer, Innersloth, is planning future updates even after the release of the Fungle map.

Weeks after the reveal of the Fungle update for Among Us, Innersloth confirmed that the new map will be available for free starting on Tuesday, October 24, at 10:00 AM Pacific. The upcoming Among Us map will take players to a mushroom-covered jungle, with new tasks to complete or sabotage, and some Fungle-themed hats will be available in Among Us VR on the same date.

In September, Among Us faced an uncertain future following the controversy surrounding Unity, the engine that the game runs on. Prior to the walk-back of the proposed runtime fees, Innersloth criticized Unity's management for proposing the runtime fees the begin with, joining a long list of developers in condemning the move. With the recent retirement of John Riccitiello as CEO of Unity, it remains to be seen what further changes Unity will make in light of the controversy. But for the time being, Innersloth is putting all efforts into Among Us' fifth map.

Starting on Tuesday, October 24, Among Us players will be able to play on The Fungle as part of a free update for PC, mobile, and current consoles. The patch will hit download servers starting at 10:00 AM Pacific on that day, so Among Us players will need to ensure that the update has been installed in order to access The Fungle. The Fungle map for Among Us was first teased on the September 14 Nintendo Direct broadcast, with an animated trailer that lasted just over one minute. The Fungle will have some new objectives for players to complete, as well as hazards for players to either avoid or take advantage of. On the same day the map comes out, Among Us VR players will receive new hats to commemorate the release of the Fungle update, as well.

Back in June 2023, Among Us celebrated its fifth anniversary with an update and a collaboration with Pusheen that lasted until September. The update brought a new look to the game's main menu, some Pusheen-themed cosmetics for player avatars to wear, and some bug fixes across all platforms. However, plans for the Fungle map were teased as early as February 2023, when Innersloth posted a roadmap for the year for Among Us on social media. Soon, over eight months after the roadmap was laid out, Innersloth will follow through on bringing the fifth map to the game.

Though Among Us has ebbed and flowed in popularity since its resurgence in 2020, that has not stopped it from being one of the most popular indie games on Twitch. Only time will tell what Innersloth's plans will be for Among Us after the Fungle update.

Among Us is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
