  • Among Us is expanding with new roles and improved lobby features to keep the gameplay fresh for players in 2024.
  • Innersloth plans to add more customization options with new cosmetics and collaborative content to enhance player experience.
  • While no new maps are announced for 2024, surprises are still in store for Among Us players throughout the year.

The development team behind Among Us has rolled out its 2024 roadmap, promising new features coming to the game throughout the year. Although reaching its height of its popularity in August 2020, publisher/developer Innersloth has continued to add regular Among Us content updates to keep the gameplay fresh.

A deductive reasoning game, Among Us supports up to 15 players per game and randomly assigns them different roles. Impostors attempt to kill off Crewmates discreetly, while the other players can collectively win the game either by completing all their tasks or successfully identifying all Impostors and ejecting them from the game.

Among Us Had to Make a Change to Avoid Violating the Geneva Conventions Act

Inner Sloth confirms an Among Us change that had to be made in order for the multiplayer game to avoid violating the Geneva Conventions Act.

Possibly the most-anticipated change coming to the game this year will be the addition of more roles for players to fill. While the game originally pitted an Impostor against a group of Crewmates who are trying to determine its identity before it kills them all off, 2021 saw multiple other roles added to Among Us on both sides of the playing field, including Shapeshifter, Guardian Angel, Engineer, and Scientist. Innersloth hasn't divulged what these new roles will be or the special powers they will possess, but it does list them in the announcement as "Coming Soon," so it's likely they'll be the first addition in the roadmap to make their way into the game.

Everything Coming To Among Us in 2024

  • New roles
  • Lobby filtering improvements
  • Lobby setting improvements
  • More cosmetics (including collaborative content)
  • Quality of life improvements

In addition to the new roles, Innersloth has announced more improvements coming to Among Us. Multiple upgrades are planned for the game's lobby, including refined search settings to help players find a game that suits them, "snappy menus" to give hosts better control over the game settings, better visibility of those settings for players looking for a game to join, and music playing as players wait to start a game. Along with these changes, Among Us is set to receive new cosmetics that players can use to customize their avatars, including some unspecified collaborative efforts. Past Among Us collab efforts have brought in cosmetics from other popular indie games, such as Undertale, Untitled Goose Game, and Castle Crashers, as well as cartoon cat Pusheen.

One feature not included in the roadmap is the addition of a new map for Among Us. The game currently supports five different maps for players to wander about in, with the most recently added being The Fungle, which debuted in late October 2023. There have only been two years since the game's 2018 launch that haven't seen the addition of a new map – 2020 and 2022 – and while none currently seems to be in the works for 2024, the roadmap states that it still has more surprises coming to the game this year.
