Developer Frictional Games has announced that it is pushing back the release date for upcoming survival-horror game Amnesia: The Bunker to May 16. Amnesia: The Bunker's reveal came as a surprise to horror fans when it was announced late last year for a March 2023 release. Unfortunately, it seems survival-horror fans are going to have to wait a little longer than expected to play the game for themselves.Amnesia: The Bunker is the latest installment in the long-running Amnesia horror series from Frictional Games. While it will retain the first-person exploration and puzzle elements that the franchise has become known for, Amnesia: The Bunker is also making some big changes to the series' formula. In Amnesia: The Bunker, survival-horror fans can expect more open world elements and direct combat with enemies, which will be quite the departure from previous Amnesia games.RELATED: Amnesia: The Bunker Dev Holding Art ContestWith Amnesia: The Bunker adding brand-new gameplay features and mechanics to the series, it's no surprise that Frictional Games may need a little extra time to ensure that it lives up to the high bar set by the previous Amnesia games. While confirming the delay of Amnesia: The Bunker's release date to May 16, Frictional explained that the team has been dealing with various winter illnesses that have had an impact on production. Therefore, the Amnesia: The Bunker release date delay is necessary in order for the game to live up to its full potential without rushing the end product.

Some survival-horror fans will no doubt be disappointed about Amnesia: The Bunker's release date delay. The recent delay of survival-horror MMO The Day Before means March 2023 isn't going to be nearly as big of a month for horror fans as it once was, but there's still the Resident Evil 4 remake to look forward to in March at least. And on the bright side, this delay should ensure that Amnesia: The Bunker doesn't launch in a broken or disappointing state for fans.

Amnesia: The Bunker gameplay videos released so far have been pretty impressive, showing off the game's physics-based puzzles and how players will have a lot of freedom when it comes to exploring the game world. And even though the game will give players the option to fight back against the monsters, it still looks like it's going to be plenty scary and not a full-blown action game, so it will be interesting to see how well it balances these elements. Horror fans will find out when Amnesia: The Bunker launches a little later this year.

Amnesia: The Bunker launches May 16 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
