In the survival horror game Amnesia: The Bunker, players will need to contend with a lot of dangers. Not only are players followed around by a massive monster intent on killing everyone in its reach, but players also have to deal with tripwire traps, explosives, and oversized, violent rats that are everywhere. These rodents will absolutely damage the player if they get the chance, so one of the biggest mistakes Amnesia players can make is to ignore them. There are loads of ways to get rid of rats, so players will want to use whatever they have available to them.
Getting Rid of Rats in Amnesia: The Bunker
There are four different ways that players can get rid of the rats in the bunker; players can kill them, take away their food source, scare them away, or trick them. Any of these methods will work just fine to make sure that players can make it through the hallways safely, but some of these methods are quieter than others.
When the monster is on the prowl in Amnesia: The Bunker, players will have to balance getting things done and the amount of noise they can make.
Killing the Rats in Amnesia: The Bunker
There are two achievements in Amnesia: The Bunker that require players to kill rats in a certain way. These are:
- Extreme Ratter - Kill at least five rats with one grenade.
- Ratter - Kill a rat or two with the shotgun in Amnesia: The Bunker.
Both of these methods are absolutely great ways to get rid of the rats in the way of progress, but unfortunately, these two methods are also very loud, and noise is one of the worst things to make in survival horror games.
If players are looking to take down these little guys without making as much noise, they can also throw fuel on the rats and light them on fire with the lighter or a flare. Another great way to kill off the rats is with a gas grenade. Killing these little monsters off isn't the only way to get rid of the pests, though.
How to Chase off Rats in the Bunker
A great way to clear the area of rats temporarily is to use a torch. When players get a stick, they can use the crafting system to combine the stick with a cloth. Then, once they have the lighter in Amnesia: The Bunker, they can light this torch up. It has a fairly long life span if players put it away between uses, too; look in the inventory slot to see how much time the torch has available to it.
The amount of gray color filling up its inventory slot is how much time it will have left to burn before it breaks. Press the aim, then the shoot button to lower the torch, and then wave it around near the rats.
Players can also pick up meat in order to lure rats away; this will earn them the Culinary Specialist achievement or trophy. A good place to pick up some meat is in the pantry and in the locked room across from the explosives room.
Get Rid of the Rat's Food Source in Amnesia: The Bunker
The best way to get rid of those pesky rats for good is to take away their food source. Since these rats eat the corpses of Henri's fellow soldiers, just burn each and every corpse; this will also help earn the Pit Master achievement/trophy. It's one of the easiest and most permanent solutions for players to be as safe as possible during the whole length of their playthrough of Amnesia: The Bunker.
